my husband and I like these names. My husband does prefer Evren. Also the meaning behind Evren we love. But you don’t really see or hear that name very much. But I also keep seeing Ezra more.

need help!!

I think if you pick Evren, he is going to spend his life correcting “Evan?” and having to explain how to spell it. That’s the issue with uncommon names and personally if there’s a more well known alternative that you like nearly as much, I don’t think it’s worth the potential hassle. So I’d stick with Ezra.

CatZoned · 05/01/2025 21:01

Never heard of Evren before. Ezra is the better of the two.

PantherchameleonsocksforChristmas · 05/01/2025 21:01

I think people will constantly be asking you/your son to repeat the name with Evren. I haven't heard that before.

I personally vote for Ezra.

AgualusasLover · 05/01/2025 21:05

I like both, Evren is a name I’ve heard in Turkey before.

I have a foreign name, as do my kids and yes you do have to repeat it, but once people know they know, it’s not as big a deal as it’s often made out on here.

That said, because Evren feels familiar to me I would need the r rolled which is harder for English speakers (I have a rolled r in my name). But, if you are pronouncing it more like - Ev-run then I like Ezra.

But honestly, both will be fine.

Snowmanscarf · 05/01/2025 21:11

I agree, people will assume Evren is Evan, or Heaven. So my vote goes to Ezra. What about Enzo which is similar-ish?

I absolutely love the meaning behind the name, also because I have never heard it before especially for a boy, I would pronounce it “Ev” “Ren” unless I am saying it wrong

That’s now the only thing putting me off the name “Evren” as I have to correct people for my daughters name 🙈

That is true! Didn’t even think of that 😔

Ezra

CalliopePlantain · 05/01/2025 21:21

I really don’t like the name Ezra - it sounds like a make of car - Toyota Ezra or Ford Ezra.

Efren/Evren is so much nicer.

pinkroses79 · 05/01/2025 21:25

I like Evren, it doesn't look complicated to pronounce. Ezra is not that rare these days. I also prefer the ending sound of Evren.
I work in schools and there are lots of names I'm not familiar with at first but I quickly learn them.

I looked up “Efren” and the name meaning we don’t like x

I like Ezra best as I’m all for an easy life and it wouldn’t need repeating / spelling etc. But I actually think Evren is a nice sounding name if you don’t mind the hassle of repeating it ☺️

Coffeemmmmcoffee · 05/01/2025 22:31

Is Evren pronounced Ev-ren or EvrEn?

I’m not that keen on either but mainly because Ezra is super common where I live.

What about Esau? Or Evo?

WetBandits · 05/01/2025 22:32

Evren sounds like a brand of contraceptive pill.

Ezra is nice, but it’s become extremely popular recently.

TangoWithAnEskimo · 05/01/2025 22:37

I read Evran as Evian…

HappyMe6 · 05/01/2025 22:39

I like both so I’m no help

Ellmau · 05/01/2025 22:41

Apparently Evren is a name in Turkey, but most people will think you've made it up. If you don't have Turkish heritage I'd avoid it.

Ditto Enzo if you're not part Italian.

Ezra is OK.

Everard?

yes It is, when we googled the name meaning that’s what we love the most, also it is quite rare as Ezra is getting quite popular now, we wanted something a bit more unique

Why not just go for Evan?

Emanwenym · 06/01/2025 09:13

You both seem to prefer Evren, so go with that.

I think a lot of people has said more negative opinions which I’m grateful for as some I didn’t think of! But now just doubting it if that makes sense

I would go for Ezra. I don't think most people in Britain will be able to do the proper pronunciation of Evren, especially not at first reading, which is closer to EvrAn with a slightly rolled R in the middle. You can hear the Turkish pronunciation here: forvo.com/search/Evren/
