my husband and I like these names. My husband does prefer Evren. Also the meaning behind Evren we love. But you don’t really see or hear that name very much. But I also keep seeing Ezra more.

need help!!

@Twicemummytobe , bear in mind that the name is 'new' on here.
In real life, where you live, it won't seem unusual.
I'm guessing you have some Turkish heritage, so it would make more sense to use a name from that heritage instead of a Hebrew-origin name, Ezra, or Italian name like Enzo.

Team Evren here.

I’d go for Ezra unless you have a Turkish connection. I think it’s a bit odd to pick a random word from a random language you don’t speak or culture you don’t have any connection to as a name for your child.

That’s the thing we don’t have Turkish heritage, we both just love the meaning of the name x

Evren isn't real is it? Ezra is the better name. Evren reminds me of the bottled water for some reason.

If OP is from anywhere which has been influenced by an Abrahamic faith, Ezra isn't just Hebrew-origin, it's part of her own culture. (Hebrew wasn't even a living spoken language until the 19/20th century, but it's not like nobody was allowed to be called John or Adam before then.) If not Ezra, maybe Eden, Asher, Asa, Ivo, Ivor could fit the bill?

Evren is a lovely name and regarding pronunciation, in London you would have no problem as there is a large Turkish population and many people are used to 'foreign' names. It is pronounced 'Ev-ren'.

Emanwenym · 06/01/2025 10:22

@lotuspocus I was basing it on the possibility of OP being of Turkish heritage, and Muslim. I think Esra and Azra are girl's names, and Ezra is Uzair.
OP isn't of Turkish heritage.

The name being a name from the poster's culture is misleading, as the names aren't always the same in different languages.

My friends son is half Turkish and named Evren, living in the UK.
He's now 16 and I've never seen or heard of him having any issue with people pronouncing his name. Normally you only ever have to tell people once and it sticks so no big deal anyway.
It's a great name and I too love the meaning.

shoopshoopdedoo · 06/01/2025 10:28

I’d go for Ezra.

Personally, I would avoid using any name that’s linked to a specific culture that you have no connection to. I’d prefer my children to have names that are neutral enough not to become a talking point for them, but I appreciate that other people would think this is really boring!

If you like Evren then use Evren!

If it's occasionally misheard as Evan...does it matter?
