I wasn’t sure at first but it’s growing on me, it’s far better than some of the poncy names people come up with these days like Dante, which to me is what you’d call a racing horse.
Thor
Tony
Toby
Tom
just cos we’re don’t used to hearing it, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

Oh please.

Your child will be the weedy, stick-thin wimp with glasses. Eternally having the piss taken out of him for being called Thor.

Would you call your kid Einstein?

🤦🏻‍♀️

Did you seriously just say that? What the actual fuck is wrong with a kid who is small, wears glasses and is shy? I don’t think any name is safe around people like you who come out with shit like that. I’d love to know how you look

It’s a fun name, he could grow up with a great personality with that name. I’d go for it.

Reminds me of this song

How about Theodore then he could choose either Theo or Thor when he grows up himself?

SwedishEdith · 05/01/2025 21:37

I went out with a Tør when I was a teenager. His name was part of the attraction.

DD1s second name is Thor. His first name in Gethin which is Welsh.

I’m not being funny but Gethin Thor sounds a bit like getting there.

That's really shite of you to have said that.

Bobbing46 · 05/01/2025 21:33

Absolutely not. Not for a human baby. A cat or a dog maybe.

He could use super hero's real names but thor is a bit much

Steve Rogers
Tony
Robbie Reyes
Eric Brooks
Stephen

A human baby?!

A human baby?!

What’s the difficulty there? It’s quite simple to understand human baby or cat baby.

Yeah cos everyone else is still calling their boys Dave and Mike. there will probably be at least 4 other Thors in his class at school

I know a girl called Sunny.

Laffydaffy · 05/01/2025 21:49

Thorsten / Torsten is used in Germany, if that helps.

It wasn't my choice!! FWIW You pronounce the th in Gethin like the word 'that' not like 'get'.

So That Thor, almost like that there?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 05/01/2025 21:54

My Mum's first washing machine in 1960 was a 'Thor'. It had three foot-pedals, one to start it to agitate, the middle to stop it, and the other one to spin. When it was delivered a woman spent an hour demonstrating it by doing all the washing.

None of this should have any effect on your son's name - it just reminded me.... 😉

Mimilamore · 05/01/2025 21:56

Great name....

buttonousmaximous · 05/01/2025 22:02

I love it, unusual but not silly. You need to have an unassuming surname to accompany it.

Weyohweyoh · 05/01/2025 22:05

It’s a great name for a dog. Horrendous name to saddle a child with.

Morningsky · 05/01/2025 22:12

When I was young we learnt about Thor Heyerdahl and his Kon- Tiki expedition. And I had the pleasure of seeing him at his museum in Tenerife many years ago.
So I've always had a real liking for the name Thor.
But I think calling your child that will have many people assuming he has a Scandanavian heritage. If that doesn't bother you then I would go for it: it is evocative of strength and adventure and individualism. . And there are many many far worse names out there.

Rozbos · 05/01/2025 22:13

Could it be a nickname? Have a full name and then as he grows up he has options? I also think it's a pretty tough name to live up to!

BananaNirvana · 05/01/2025 22:15

If he’s naming him after Thor from Marvel that’s ludicrous - only about 0.1% of the male population could carry that name off 😳

Moier · 05/01/2025 22:18

Love it .
Love Norse names.
My daughters have Norse names ..
I also like Odin and Dane.
Hence my name.
