Please can I ask people's opinions on Thor? TIA

I wasn’t sure at first but it’s growing on me, it’s far better than some of the poncy names people come up with these days like Dante, which to me is what you’d call a racing horse.

My Mum's first washing machine in 1960 was a 'Thor'. It had three foot-pedals, one to start it to agitate, the middle to stop it, and the other one to spin. When it was delivered a woman spent an hour demonstrating it by doing all the washing.

I love it, unusual but not silly. You need to have an unassuming surname to accompany it.

It’s a great name for a dog. Horrendous name to saddle a child with.

When I was young we learnt about Thor Heyerdahl and his Kon- Tiki expedition. And I had the pleasure of seeing him at his museum in Tenerife many years ago.
So I've always had a real liking for the name Thor.
But I think calling your child that will have many people assuming he has a Scandanavian heritage. If that doesn't bother you then I would go for it: it is evocative of strength and adventure and individualism. . And there are many many far worse names out there.

Could it be a nickname? Have a full name and then as he grows up he has options? I also think it's a pretty tough name to live up to!

If he’s naming him after Thor from Marvel that’s ludicrous - only about 0.1% of the male population could carry that name off 😳
