YES.

My lo's name is James, hence my MN name. I love it, we won't be calling him Jamie though, seems like a completely different name. When we do shorten it, it's to Jimbo/Jimbob/Jimjam!

LyraSilvertongue · 03/05/2008 00:30

There are to James's in DS1's year one class. Both have the surname initial H. So to identify them you have to say their full name.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/05/2008 00:31

it's such a classic name though. it must have been in the top ten forever.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 03/05/2008 00:34

I knew it was popular when we chose it, but we had such trouble finiding a boys name we agreed on at all, that when dp suggested it after months of suggesting silly names just to be a pita (Jarvis? Zadock? Cruz?) it just seemed right. He was almost called Jude, which seems so so wrong for him now!!!

And really, kids don't mind having popular names that much. In our class in school there were 5 Steven/Stephen's. Every one was called something different, a nickname, a surname etc Not one of them minded, they were all close friends!

LyraSilvertongue · 03/05/2008 00:36

I still like it, popular or not.

Finona · 03/05/2008 00:48

Like it. We gave DS this as his middle name as it's a family name (on both sides). There's one 'Jamie' at playgroup with DS, but I wouldn't say it's a really popular (i.e.overused) name. More classic I would say

1dilemma · 03/05/2008 00:49

Yes
like Thomas too
round here every second boy seems to be called Thomas
the others are all Sam or Max

(whispers to scottishmummy thought Hamish was the Scots version of James so to speak?)

expatinscotland · 03/05/2008 00:50

My DD would have been James - I think it's lovely. I would have shortened it to Jimmy or Jim I think but DH wouldn't!!

Walkthedinosaur · 03/05/2008 09:35

Yup I've got a James - although he's hardly ever called that, he's a Jamie (which most definitely is not chavvy), sometimes Jimmy, quite a lot Jim Jam, or oi, get over here you little monkey. And he absolutely loves the fact that there is a James in the Thomas Stories.

AbbeyA · 03/05/2008 09:36

A lovely name. We have it as a middle one for 2nd DS. We would have had it for first name but already have a J and didn't want complications with the post later on and same initial.

meep · 03/05/2008 09:36

love James! Alas my bf's first child is James so I had to strike it off our list!

schneebly · 03/05/2008 09:37

I like it - DS2's middle name!

alfiesbabe · 03/05/2008 11:56

Yes! It's a classy, beautiful name. Don't worry about the fact that it's not an unusual name. I teach teenagers and believe me, they are MUCH happier having a 'normal' name rather than something weird and outlandish.

Scotia · 03/05/2008 12:01

I love it - and would happily shorten it to Jamie, which is not in the slightest bit 'chavvy' here in Scotland.

piratecat · 03/05/2008 12:07

I really like this name.

moyasmum · 03/05/2008 12:16

oh yes

mazzystar · 03/05/2008 12:20

How could anyone dislike it?

DH is Jamie [scottish and v posh], my dad's middle name and my Grandad was Jim. So I like it a lot
