Hallie or Pippa? Sister for Belle

Just that really! Hallie or Pippa as a baby sister for 2yo Belle? We wouldn’t go for a longer name eg Philippa etc, just choosing between those two!

Both work well with Belle. I think I slightly prefer Pippa

Blakethedrake · 28/12/2024 20:14

Hallie

sorry I really really don’t like pippa

Moreteaandchocolate · 28/12/2024 20:15

Both are nice! Pippa is my favourite 🤩

allmylifelong · 28/12/2024 20:16

Hallie

Aglassaday · 28/12/2024 20:17

Prefer Pippa :)

Coffeemmmmcoffee · 28/12/2024 20:18

Pippa any day

One of the Radford kids is Hallie which would be enough to put me off tbh

FatFiatMultiplaWhopper · 28/12/2024 20:20

Pippa by a mile. Hallie is just a noise.

LizzieBet14 · 28/12/2024 20:30

Belle & Pippa go nicely together 💕

AdventuresAwait · 28/12/2024 20:32

Pippa!

therewasafishinthepercolator · 28/12/2024 20:35

I love Hallie.

theduchessofspork · 28/12/2024 20:37

Pippa

BoleynMemories13 · 28/12/2024 21:03

Pippa does not translate well, it has a very rude meaning in some languages. It could be quite an unfortunate name to bear if she chooses to travel when she's older.

I think the 'll' in Belle and Hallie mirror each other well.

Holly is quite similar to Hallie, if you like Holly?

shoopshoopdedoo · 28/12/2024 21:13

Definitely not Hallie. So, Pippa!

Brodpit · 28/12/2024 21:13

Pippa

Mandarinaduck · 28/12/2024 22:05

Pippa, it has the same fresh, pretty feel as Belle and doesn’t repeat the same sounds.

Mischance · 28/12/2024 22:07

Not Hallie for sure. Pippa is better.

CaliforniaEarthquake · 28/12/2024 22:09

Hallie

Marlena1 · 28/12/2024 22:11

Hallie is my favourite. If a December baby I think I'd pick Holly. I regret not calling DD2 Hayley.

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/12/2024 23:23

Pippa….. less l’s but tbh prefer Hallie

lol you only ever hear people mentioning the rude translation on Mumsnet...obsessed.

Pippa is lovely, I love it

Well yes, if you read this page a lot you will see people mentioning it, to warn people who are obvious and may end up choosing a name they regret.

I'm not sure why pointing out to someone that their chosen name has a rude meaning in several languages would equate to 'obsessed'? OP is free to ignore this fact if Pippa is truly the name they love, but I know I'd like to know if I was about to choose name which could cause my child embarrassment in the future.

Is this translation in German or other eu languages? Because in mine pipi means dck, but only children use pipi to refer to dck. I seen other members mention "translations" that aren't really translation, like oenone meaning to wank in German, when oenone isn't even actual word in German. I think people see words that aren't really words, because they simply have education of potato.

Is pipa a word in your language, or not? Pipi doesn't count.

IWantToBeADCC · 29/12/2024 10:17

Hallie. Don’t like Pippa, too posh and horsey. Hallie is cool.

My language is English! Pippa has rude transitions in many languages, although I am not aware of German being one of those.

As I said, people are free to ignore that or say it wouldn't bother them but I see nothing wrong in warning someone who may be completely unaware that their name choice doesn't translate well in some languages. It's not a problem unique to Pippa.
