Boy and girl names- Scotland

Mudonstairs · 07/12/2024 20:59

We live in Scotland but don’t necessarily need baby name to be Scottish.

What do people think of these names? Erin, Harper, Hazel for a girl.
Harry or Henry for a boy.

Any other suggestions welcome 😊

Kirsten, Morven.
Glen, Murray, Hector.

EvelynBeatrice · 07/12/2024 21:01

Like all your suggestions other than Harper. Associate it with the beckhams or the USA. But never mind about anyone else - choose what you like.

Glen, Murray, Hector.

Thanks. I like all of those an except for Murray. Hector was on our list for our first boy. I won’t say what his name is in case people guess who I am 😂

Love Hazel and Henry/Harry.

Like pp, I’m not fond of Harper ( sounds like someone who harps on and on!) and Erin always sounds harsh to me.

Xyz1234567 · 07/12/2024 21:04

Agree, Harper is not good. I like Finlay and Struan.

I can’t use Finlay. I love Struan but I always sound like I’m slurring when I say it like it’s some kind of tongue twister for me. Maybe I just need to practice saying it more haha

Like Erin and Hazel but none of the others. Assuming needs to begin with H so
Hunter, Hamish, Harris

Someone who harps on and on 😂 yes, I can see that now! It wasn’t my favourite. Mine and husbands favourites are Hazel and Harry, but didn’t want to put that in my OP so it didn’t influence the suggestions.

Thanks. I love Hamish but I think DH will say no! No, it doesn’t have to begin with H. It’s just coincidental that majority of the names we like start with H.

Hazel & Henry are my favourites by far

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/12/2024 21:15

I love Erin and Hazel, and Harry or Henry. Hazel and Harry are the least commonly used of your ideas, which makes them nice options.

Roisin ( my daughter claimed adamantly that her new friend at nursery rejoiced in the name ‘Machine’ 😁

I think Hazel is super cute yet still nice for a grown woman. I know a couple of little Hazels and they are gorgeous!

beetr00 · 07/12/2024 21:59

so sorry @Mudonstairs but haven't you heard "they called her Hazel because she was a nut?" 🙉

having said that, it does seem to be popular atm 😊

People don’t use the expression “ nut” as much now though do they? Anyway nuts are cute! Lots of babies are nicknamed peanut in the womb!

BootballJoy · 07/12/2024 22:15

Hazel and Henry my favourites from your list.

I like Hamish, Magnus, Finlay, Angus, Rory, Struan from Scottish boys' names. Thorfinn from Orkney is great too.

For girls I love Flora. Also quite like Kirsty, although it is dated.

theduchessofspork · 07/12/2024 22:32

I like Harry\Henry but they are very overdone

Hazel is OK, but I find it a bit hard. Erin is a bit 90s and Harper a bit Beckham/Hello Mag and it will really date.

I like Bryony, I love Iris but so many of them.
I love Struan and Hector, like Luke, quite like Louis but please don't spell it Louie, it looks like you can't spell

Or maybe

Verity
Cassia (Cassie)
Esther
Lois
Ines
Carys
Harriet (Hatty)
Kristen / Kirsten
Catrin
Clio

Laurence (Laurie)
Stellan
Ronan
Lachlan
Kester
Alistair
Angus
Innes

Can you explain what you mean when you say Hazel is a bit hard? Do you mean difficult to say/spell? Or hard as in harsh sounding?

I’m up coughing. 😬

I met two little boys last week - Odin and Lorne.

Girls: Brianna ( instead of Bryony) or Rhea.
