Pandora?

Is Pandora too “out there”? Thinking of using Pandora Felicity or Pandora Skye. DH’s told his mum who’s said it’s “poncey” and too “out there”.
opinions?

It's nice but I can imagine a lot of jokes about Pandora's box when she gets a bit older 🫤

NancyDrooo · 04/12/2024 00:48

How about Paloma for a bit more modern to it, or Isadora?

Paloma Felicity
Isadora Sky

sel2223 · 04/12/2024 06:00

Sorry it's a no from me. Paloma as suggested by pp is much nicer

Moreteaandchocolate · 04/12/2024 06:01

I know a teen called Pandora and it suits her well. It is a bit out there for my personal taste and the Pandora box reference is unfortunate, but Dora / Dory are nice nn options.

wineandcheeseplease · 04/12/2024 06:02

Just reminds me of the jewellery

SchoolDilemma17 · 04/12/2024 06:03

Reminds me of the bracelets and Pandora’s box
it’s a no from me

MaggieBsBoat · 04/12/2024 06:10

Nah Paloma though is beautiful.

usernother · 04/12/2024 06:20

I think it's a lovely name.

TheForestCalls · 04/12/2024 07:22

A bit of a 'loaded' name. Other than Pandora's box, Adrian Mole comes to mind.

Dontwearmysocks · 04/12/2024 07:30

Sorry makes me think of awful jewellery

Suhbataar · 04/12/2024 07:33

Pandora / I adore ya / I implore ye/ Don't ignore me

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/12/2024 07:33

Lovely name, shame about the jewellery brand. (Don't like Paloma at all, so not a good alternative in my eyes.)

fruitpastille · 04/12/2024 07:33

There are Pandora shops in lots of town centres which would put me off. It's also the name of the moon in the film Avatar but that's more niche!

RosesAndHellebores · 04/12/2024 07:36

I wouldn’t call it poncey or out there and I think it sounds nice but the associations are too unfortunate to use it. Principally Pandora's box from mythology and a jewellery outlet.

Isolde, Xanthe, Olympic, Artemis, etc, of that genre are better but unquestionably your MIL would think them poncey and too out there too.

I like Felicity.

mum2jakie · 04/12/2024 07:37

Adrian Mole to me...

CoalTit · 04/12/2024 07:40

Pandora? The one who let all the evil into the world? That's like calling your son Beelzebub or Lucifer or Nicodemus.

I recently saw a woman shouting “LUCIFER! Get out of that garden!”

I was half expecting a pet but no, it was a small boy who ran up to her. Not urban legend, genuinely seen & heard by me.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/12/2024 07:44

Its interesting what connections people make. I think of the Kerrang comic strip character and Ann Rices vampire.

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 04/12/2024 07:50

I really like it. Pan as a nickname is good too.

lemonlavendar · 04/12/2024 07:52

Beautiful name.

I would hit the the "thanks" button, but that wouldn't tell you how much your post made me laugh. Thank you.

No. Adrian Mole and Pandora’s Box.

I had to hold my breath & keep my mouth shut until I was safely round the corner! Grin

I knew of a toddler Pandora - which I thought was a ridiculous name - but then they started calling her "Pandy" which is just awful 😳 poor child!

And yes re: Pandora's box - why would you want that association for her?!

Phineyj · 04/12/2024 08:59

Older people: Pandora's box.
Middle aged people: Adrian Mole (although she was a great character!)
Younger people: charm bracelets.
