Hi,

My wife and I are expecting a boy in the new year. We would like a traditional name for him and Wilf is the front runner at the moment (Wilfred on his birth certificate).

It seems to be a real marmite name. Some people seem to violently dislike it which is fine. It’s a free country!

We figure he could also be Fred if he doesn’t take to Wilf for whatever reason. He’s got options.

What do you think of Wilf?

Not a name I would choose as being one from a time long since gone.

I’ve met a toddler Wilf (just Wilf) - lovely name (kind of reminds me of Wolf which is very cool 🤣 but a bit too brave).

I do agree that Wilfred on the BC would be better as it gives him more options and many people will assume that anyway. Sorry, didn’t vote as didn’t see the thread- but great choice imo!

I’m not a fan, prefer Alfred! Miles would be my choice if I was having a boy tomorrow, or Alexander.

@dadtobe no we've never had any bullying issues or any link to milf. Sadly, as I know, if kids want to find a reason to bully they will do, if not they won’t. The name is irrelevant.

Personally, I really like it. It was a frontrunner for me but in the end we went for a different first name but my son's middle names are Wilfred and Sylvester instead.
