Sunny?

Greetings all, someone who I know indirectly named their newborn daughter Sunny. To me it sounds so stupid as the child will have the name for life. It’s also a potential downer, ‘I’m Sunny’- oh no you’re not. What do we all think?
I know Sonny for males is different and a lot nicer.

I think they're both lovely joyful names.

GoldenLegend · 27/11/2024 21:12

Awful. Not good for a child, but far worse for an adult.

Lion1618 · 28/11/2024 20:16

I really like both Sunny and Sonny. It's just personal preference isn't it really. There are plenty of more typically popular names which I think sound awful and dreary. Each to their own.

ohnonotyetplease · 29/11/2024 08:13

My girl is called Sunny, and she is sunny by nature, and the name has been met with almost universal positivity.... not that that is why we name our children, but it's really nice when others are positive about it too.
Her first name is Georgiana, so if she wishes to use a name that has more gravitas, in a professional environment, she can. But she's always been known as Sunny.
Easy to spell. Easy to say. I still love it.

There was a Sunshine when I was on holidays this year. At first I thought it was a nickname but no that was her name, she was 2. I'm sure everybody within a 10 mile radius knew the child's name.

purpleme12 · 29/11/2024 08:40

I love it
For both boys and girls

Suckyamum · 09/12/2024 18:00

My newborn daughter is called Sunny. We must indirectly know one another? That’s scary 😂

If you believe names need to match personality then surely you must be called Cunt..????

Toddlerteaplease · 09/12/2024 18:02

I know a Sonny. It's awful.

fleur89 · 09/12/2024 18:56

It's a lovely name. As with all names, some people will have negative opinions. We considered many traditional names for our son and even close family had something negative to say about them. In the end we told nobody the chosen name until after he was born.

Lillers · 09/12/2024 19:06

It’s a real shame when people use this space to bash someone’s name, rather than to sound out their thoughts about names they’re considering for their own children.

For what it’s worth, I think Sunny is a lovely name, and I don’t think people should be starting threads purely to pour negativity on the name of someone they know (whether you know them indirectly or not). If someone had started a thread asking for opinions on this name because they are considering it, that’s different, because they’re inviting your thoughts.

Brilliant 😂

cd24x · 09/12/2024 19:44

Why exactly does the name of someone you know indirectly affect you so much? You must be a lovely individual to trash the name of a newborn you have absolutely no affiliation with.

I was under the assumption this board was to float baby name ideas, not bitch about a baby that has a name you don't like.

Sunny is a great name ☀️

What a horrible judgy thread. I believe these boards are more for names you are considering or need help with rather than just declaring a hate for a name that hasn’t really got much to do with you. Names are subjective. Some people will love or hate any name. Whether traditional or not.

MrsC2024 · 09/12/2024 20:02

What a nasty thread. Sunny is a beautiful name for a baby girl, and a cool name for an adult. Clearly the OP isn’t of a particularly sunny disposition if they believe criticising the name of a newborn baby is an appropriate thing to do.

How bloody bizarre to come online to want to discuss how much you dislike a name that has nothing to do with you. I always find I love names more when I know somebody with it, I know a beautiful baby girl named Sunny and I love it. Peace be with you Karen ✌️

I think your mum should have raised you to know better than this pathetic thread.
💁🏻‍♀️

tryingfortwo2 · 09/12/2024 20:16

I don’t understand the point of this thread? Just to tell the world someone you sort of know used a name you don’t like? What are you aiming to achieve?

XelaM · 09/12/2024 20:25

I absolutely love the name Sonny after Godfather Part I 😍

RoSco197 · 09/12/2024 20:27

I know a sonny (m) and a sunny (f) and love both names - both names suit their people perfectly.

The real question is why would OP come onto a forum to bash a name that has nothing to do with them… what a sad little life Jane @peaceinourtime

Suckyamum · 22/12/2024 23:51

@peaceinourtime you’ve gone awfully quiet. I’m really eager to hear if you’d name your child unity, knowing that they probably wont be cooperative every single day of their life. “Hi I’m unity” oh no you’re not.. 😭

ps, there’s a lot of outing info attached to this username btw…

AmiablePedant · 23/12/2024 18:31

Adjectival names can be terribly risky.

weaselpatrol · 23/12/2024 20:39

I know three people named Sunny. Ages between 5 and 44 - it never even occurred to me that people would have such a negative reaction to the name. It’s a popular Asian name which folk might like to consider before coming onto the internet and making yourself look a bit ignorant.

Blakethedrake · 23/12/2024 20:59

Well life would be boring if we all had the same taste.

MN seem so rigid and stuck up when it comes to baby names.
