Thoughts on the name Anna? We wanted a short name that works in many countries but someone said it’s boring and dated.

I wonder why mn always complains that Elsa is unusable because of Frozen but Anna is a 'timeless classic' 😆

It was on my list but in Scandinavia it's so overdone my dh called it the most boring girls name that shows the parents have zero imagination so we didnt use it.

This thread is making me gutted I didn't call my daughter Anna 🤣

LadyGabriella · 24/11/2024 11:27

Without causing offence as it seems a lot of people here like the name, Anna is quite a boring choice. It’s a non descript filler kind of bland meaningless name. Like Louise or Jane.

RitaIncognita · 24/11/2024 12:26

It's a beautiful name, and at least where I live, not at all over-popular. My granddaughter is the only Anna in her class, and she loves her name.

Me too!

I have a 15 year old Anna. Every Anna I had met before she was born was both clever and beautiful, so I thought it was a great reason for a name. Not sure she's either (she is to me of courseGrin) but she doesn't hate her name or think it's basic.
Her nickname at home is noodle, which is not related to her name in any way.

Ebabllisstggoffor · 24/11/2024 13:59

Classy ❤️

Haha ok maybe don’t take my advice. To be fair, I like Anna most out of those three.

I've been called Anna Banana and 3 separate groups of friends/family still call me Spanner (I'm late 30s!) but it's always said with love! There are many worse nicknames to have. As I always say, in an emergency a spanner and a banana could be lifesavers 😉😉.

I love this 😀 👏🏻

SallyWD · 24/11/2024 16:56

One of my favourites. Really love it. A classic but very fresh sounding.

I love it, but I have several family members called that (the oldest of them chose Anna, she was christened Annie). I think it's a beautiful, timeless and elegant name.

The one thing I'd say is that DD's 16 yo friend chose to be called Ann rather than Anna so that might be the more popular version in a few years.

30percentoffatCosta · 25/11/2024 09:00

@NameHelp2020 My 12 year old Anna & I did indeed have Costa hot chocolate yesterday along with one of their red velvet mini Christmas loaves, with 30% off!

Perhaps it's an Anna & mum thing, & you'll find yourself there with your Anna doing the same in years to come 😀

I like Anna. It’s classic. Also, love a palindrome.

LucyEleanorModeratz · 30/11/2024 21:54

I'm an Anna and growing up I truly despised my name; I thought it was so dull and uninspiring and that my parents must have stopped at page 1 of the 'baby name' book.

Now in my mid thirties I appreciate my name - it is timeless, elegant, travels well (pretty well known globally) whilst not being ten-a-penny.

Go for it :)

Scrimt · 30/11/2024 21:59

It's a very boring name to me but it's not a name that would hold a person back or embarrass them.

Soubriquet · 30/11/2024 22:40

I like Anna but I just say I like Dianna a little bit more

Mez123 · 30/11/2024 23:18

I like Anna!😍 It is timeless and suitable for all age groups!
