Thoughts on the name Anna? We wanted a short name that works in many countries but someone said it’s boring and dated.

Lovely name

mangobananasmooothie · 22/11/2024 18:09

Personally I think it's a bit dull
Prefer Anya, Annabelle, Arianna, or Annelie

I love it and chose it for my DD (6). It’s less common than it used to be so we’ve only come across one other her age. The only thing I will say is that a lot of popular girls names end in -a at the moment. I didn't think about it at the time and it doesn’t bother me but her year at school also has Freya, Isla, Ava, Mia, Lara and Sophia 😊

It is boring and dated I'm afraid. There are some beautiful names, so it's a real waste to me!

resm · 22/11/2024 18:24

I love it! It is my absolute favourite girl’s name, but I had only boys. The person who said it was dull might be into names that are completely not to your taste, and that’s okay too, but don’t let them put you off!

It’s lovely! There’s no such thing as a name everyone likes, so don’t worry about your colleague - you can see by this thread that most people love it ☺️

TheWayTheLightFalls · 22/11/2024 18:39

Love it. You need to be happy with Banana as a nickname, it’s basically mandatory!

It is lovely

Theoldcuriosityshop · 22/11/2024 18:55

We have a Louisa, she's been the only one at school from nursery right through to year 12.

Wrennie4 · 22/11/2024 18:57

It's not dated at all. It's beautiful and classy.

Beautiful name. Classic and timeless. It was the name I wanted for a girl but I had four boys 😂

NCnumber3 · 22/11/2024 19:07

Anna is beautiful. I love both that and Alice, those would have been my chosen girls names. Classic but surprisingly unusual (at least in my circles!)

wizzler · 22/11/2024 19:17

Love it

DustyLee123 · 22/11/2024 16:24

I like it. Much better than the Tesla I recently met.

Stop it 🤣

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 22/11/2024 19:23

I love it. As others have said it's timeless and a classic.
Just a tip - don't discuss names before the baby is born with anyone other than the other parent. For some reason people feel like they have a say on what you call your child.

MayaPinion · 22/11/2024 19:25

Is a perfect, classic, elegant name that everyone can spell, say, and understand. The sort of name that looks equally good on a judge and a DJ.

salamithumbs · 22/11/2024 19:31

I love Anna, I think it sounds elegant because of Anna Pavlova but also strong!

SapphireOpal · 22/11/2024 19:50

Lovely name. Re pronunciation, you may get Ar-na rather than A-na in some countries (like in Frozen where they use the Scandinavian pronunciation).

That is a really good point, I didn’t think of that! I like both pronunciations but would say it An-na myself.

I don’t think it’s dated, it’s very timeless. It is boring though.

coldcallerbaiter · 22/11/2024 20:07

Classic, feminine and international- one of the best.
