Thoughts on Stella?

My husband absolutely loves it, I like it and also can’t come up with anything else.

What are people’s thoughts on it? Any middle name suggestions?

Also very aware of the lager association but I don’t think any of our friends/family would mention it even if they thought it to themselves.

Brilliant name. Strong, cool, not too common.

DramaAlpaca · 24/10/2024 20:22

I love it

purser25 · 24/10/2024 20:38

I like it as a name. I think of a cat or the MP Stella Creasy.

VirginiaGirl · 24/10/2024 20:41

I like it. Very cool name.

Gotosleep91 · 24/10/2024 22:52

We have a Stella! I absolutely adore it. I think it's strong yet pretty at the same time and suits a child and an adult.

Everyone who meets her comments that it's such a lovely name (and I know they're genuine because DD2s name tends to get....'oh!' 😂)

We've yet to meet another one too

stevienicksismyfairygodmother · 25/10/2024 05:01

I really like it and my friend's daughter is wonderful at 20 with the name. However, I suggested it recently when my niece (31) was pregnant and she says it reminded her of the strong beer; now I can't stop thinking of that connection.
How about 'Aurora', a friend's daughter just named her baby this and I think it's lovely. Means' Dawn' in Latin, so a new light into a family - she had a very, tough pregnancy when her family were also going through a hard time.... and it seems so very fitting. Plus she is absolutely beautiful.

Viviennemary · 25/10/2024 05:04

It's an acceptable name. But I don't like it very much. Doesn't sound very attractive.

Gemstonebeach · 25/10/2024 05:19

We know a very sweet baby Stella and a slightly older Estelle - both great names!

GoodVibesHere · 25/10/2024 05:43

Whilst it is a pretty name, to me it's very 80's and a bit similar to Sharon and Tracey. It has 'Bet Lynch' vibes.

But perhaps I'm showing my age and it's no longer got that feel to it.

I also think of the tv programme 'Stella' of course, starring Ruth Jones.

FayCarew · 25/10/2024 09:10

Sharon and Tracey are not 1980s names, they are 1960s names.
Stellas are rare in the 30-70 year old age group.

There was a rival pub landlady called Stella Rigby in Coronation Street. Stella Rigby | Coronation Street Wiki | Fandom

Atishooo · 25/10/2024 09:30

There were two Tracey’s in my school in the 90s.

To me it also fits in with the Tracey/Sharon vibe.

Completelyjo · 25/10/2024 09:32

I know loads of people go on about Stella meaning star and how cute it is but I just can’t.
Sheila goes out with her mate Stella.

Thefirstdance · 25/10/2024 09:37

I love it. I think it’s a beautiful name. The beer association I guess is unfortunate—but only really a problem if your surname is Artois??
It makes me think of the character DSU Stella Gibson (played by Gillian Anderson) in The Fall. One of my favourite TV characters ever.
Great name!

DreadingWinter · 25/10/2024 09:39

It reminds me of old people. My mum's friends were Stella, Maureen, Sheila etc. I really dislike it.

reallyalurker · 25/10/2024 09:47

I like it. Stella Gibbons (Cold Comfort Farm) novelist is a good reference, and the main character in Elizabeth Goudge's Gentian Hill is Stella Sprigg.

doopsy · 25/10/2024 10:25

I’d think Stella’s parents are heavy lager drinkers, which was presumably Frank Gallagher’s inspiration.

Moonshiners · 25/10/2024 11:05

Unfortunately where I live you get a really strong "uh" at the end of all names ending in a.
I also really strongly associated with the Jamie T song!

resm · 25/10/2024 18:02

I love it!! I’d think Streetcar before lager, but it’s a great name. I like the literary feel.

Bamboozie · 25/10/2024 18:12

I’m a bit on the fence about the name Stella. I kind of like it, nice meaning but I do think of lager when I see it written down and the strong ‘uh’ sound at the end doesn’t sound right (not in my accent anyway!)

SerafinasGoose · 25/10/2024 21:03

Love Stella. And Estella too.

working4ever · 25/10/2024 21:21

No one has mentioned Stella McCartney! Nothing wrong with Stella at all - it's quite posh but not too much so. You will know by looking at your baby whether she's a Stella, Georgia, Saskia or Jane ( alternative names available). I was always told any girl name ending in A was posh!

Choose what you like bearing in mind your surname so it doesn't sound odd/funny and will be teased later on.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/10/2024 21:56

My niece is a Stella
Her nabe works in both her parents's languages and the language of the country they live in.

Newmum110 · 25/10/2024 22:18

Beautiful name OP. Was on my list but hubby didn't like it :-(

BettyBardMacDonald · 25/10/2024 22:30

Love it.
