Thoughts about these girls names?

My partner and I are expecting a baby girl, sister to Leo. He's Italian, I'm from another Mediterranean country, and we live in London, so we want an international name that goes well with his Italian surname. Not too long and no middle names.

Shortlist includes Sofia, Elisa, Nina, Giorgia, Zoe, Vera, Martina, Ana. Thoughts?

And what else might we like? We can't use Mia/Mila, Sara/Zara, Emilia, Ella, Nora, Luna.

Thanks!

Leo and Sofia makes for a very versatile, international sibset.

StormingNorman · 20/10/2024 00:10

Love Ana. So classic the spelling makes it quite unusual here where it’s usually spelt Anna.

Vera is quite old-fashioned. Would Vittoria work with Vita as a short name?

TheNinjaWife · 20/10/2024 00:10

Zoe and Leo. Great names

FicheSeacht · 20/10/2024 00:11

Nina.

Balloonhearts · 20/10/2024 00:13

Love Sofia. Ana is nice too. Not keen on the others tbh.

Oodiks · 20/10/2024 00:14

I like the alliteration of Leo and Elise, but also the pairing of Leo and Zoe is very cute.

redtrain123 · 20/10/2024 00:19

Prefer Anna to Ana . Don’t use Ana if your surname begins with ‘L’ (= anal).

Giorgia looks like a misspelt Georgia to me.

Other names are nice.

Alternatives-
Alessia
Florence
Adrianna
Maria
Lucia
Christina
Ava

Agree.
International, cool and edgy all at the same time.

Nina is lovely. Elisa nice. Sofia way over-used.

Theoldwoman · 20/10/2024 00:46

Ella would have been my pic, pity you can’t use it.

Love Nina the most. Leo and Nina.

Thanks everyone!

My doubt with Ana (surname starts with D) is that back home they'll pronounce it as 'un-nuh' whereas I would just like 'ah-nah'. It's my last living grandmother's name though, so we think that would be nice...

Some nice suggestions to add there, especially Eva. Thank you!
Unfortunately we also can't use Cora, Marina, Valeria, Vittoria (amongst the last of 2 large families and many of our friends to have kids), I can't pronounce Aurora although I really like it 😅, and Anglo names like Kate, Tess, Elaine combined with the surname sound strange.

Keep them coming! 😊

Your list is lovely! I like Sofia best. What about Chiara or Maria?

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 20/10/2024 08:56

Maria, Lucia, Christina (Nina) Isabella, Carla?

Edit: Elena, Paola, I’m sure there are more when I get thinking!

Andrea?

Moreteaandchocolate · 20/10/2024 10:52

I love your list! Giorgia, Nina and Zoe are my favourites- gorgeous names!

I love Sofia too, if you don’t mind its popularity, and Ana if you don’t mind the pronunciation variations you mentioned.

Elisa is gorgeous but could become Ellie or get misheard as Alicia / Alyssa / Alessia etc…

Sofia is incredibly common now. Giorgia all the way.
