Thoughts about these girls names?

My partner and I are expecting a baby girl, sister to Leo. He's Italian, I'm from another Mediterranean country, and we live in London, so we want an international name that goes well with his Italian surname. Not too long and no middle names.

Shortlist includes Sofia, Elisa, Nina, Giorgia, Zoe, Vera, Martina, Ana. Thoughts?

And what else might we like? We can't use Mia/Mila, Sara/Zara, Emilia, Ella, Nora, Luna.

Thanks!

Nina.

merrymelodies · 20/10/2024 12:59

My favourite is Francesca.

greengreyblue · 20/10/2024 17:10

Francesca is my DD's middle name. A shortening can be Cesca( Chesca)

Grepes · 20/10/2024 17:15

Ana is sweet, I know a couple of under 3s with that name so I think the spelling is becoming more popular here.

I dislike Nina, it’s one of those classic 80s baby names like Sarah, Claire, etc.

Isabella is another popular name in the UK now, which might be suitable?

Gianna (Gigi)
Elisa is lovely and I only know one!
Always loved Zöe but I don't think it's of with Leo. Too many vowels!
Julia is very international and I love it

Nina is my fave, followed by Ana and Zoe. I like them all apart from Martina and Elisa.

Thanks again! Really appreciate all the feedback and suggestions, and also relieved not to get comments saying they're all terrible 😅

I've added Julia, Chiara, Elena and Gaia to the list. I think Marcella is lovely but maybe too long with Leo? And my partner doesn't like Marcie as a nn. He has already vetoed Carla, Aria, Stella and some others, and I don't like the 'uwh' sound in the Italian pronunciation of names like Paola and Claudia.

We can't use Isabella, Maria, Lucia, Rosa. Valentina, Francesca, Annabella, Angelina are lovely but too long for us/the surname. Gina, Gianna, Giovanna seem a bit dated to me, Andrea is a male name in Italy, and Lana means 'wool' although that's not necessarily a problem, I guess?

I totally get the comments that Sofia is overused but, funnily enough, I only know one and she's my age living in Italy. In our circle, the overused names seem to be Sara, Mia, Alessia, Bianca 🤷🏻‍♀️ It was our same doubt with Leo, and we know a young Leon, Leonardo, and several Theos but no Leo as yet.

Please remember that your son's name stands alone and has nothing to do with your daughter's name .

Gia
Tessa
Emilia

I like Nina too, OP.

Thanks so much! We've been playing around with all the ideas over the last days and our long list has increased quite a bit, but we keep coming back to Sofia, Nina, and Elisa as the top 3 across mine and my partner's favourites.

Due date is not for a couple of months though, so still plenty of time to change our minds 😅

I like Elisa best of these 3, the others are nice too but Elisa is a bit more unusual- but not difficult for English speakers to say or spell
