What do we think of the name Decovan? I had never heard of it before but know of one who is in his early twenties. The more I think about the name the more I like it? Has anyone heard of it before ?

Sorry not keen. Dec is nice for short, but Declan is nicer as a full name imo.

I have a son named Declan. If I met a Decovan I'd assume that their parents are either a) those strange types who like made-up youneeek names or b) have speech impediments.

Agree with those who say it sounds like a brand name for a drug.

Just wanted to come on to say I proposed my daughters unusual name on mn a few years ago and was met with "no, awful" and she now gets sincere compliments on her name every day. If it feels right, go for it. I'm so glad we did.

Declan's lovely.

lololulu · 14/10/2024 06:34

Deccan is better

Owly11 · 14/10/2024 06:34

I thought the thread was going to be asking questions about a medication until I saw it was in baby names. It sounds nicer than it looks if that makes sense.

Which everyone will hear as Declan, which means a lifetime of it being misspelled and pronounced incorrectly.

lololulu · 14/10/2024 06:38

Deccan is a name

Deccan?

One of our local members of parliament has a son named Dekklyn and I was annoyed at that! 😆

UseOfWeapons · 14/10/2024 06:59

Dreadful.

groovergirl · 14/10/2024 07:00

No. Sounds phoney. Consider Declan, Daniel, Donovan, Donnelly.

It's sounds like the name of a decorating company and I think your child would be a target for bullies! Go with either Declan or Donavan

RumpleDumple · 14/10/2024 07:19

Just no. Terrible name.

teatoast8 · 14/10/2024 07:27

Awful name

Commonsense22 · 14/10/2024 10:20

Are you sure it's spelt that way and not Dekoven, the Dutch name?

DalRiata · 14/10/2024 10:22

I'm nowhere near as closed minded about names as many on Mumsnet... but this is truly bad.

Sounds like a brand name for a birth control

Literally thought exactly the same thing

I like unusual names. But Decovan???

Changeyourfuckingcar · 14/10/2024 10:24

Could you not decide between Devon and Declan?

Wishimaywishimight · 14/10/2024 10:41

Horrible, sounds like a medication.

Imagine having to spell it out every time you say your name - don't do that to your child.

You don't want to be so open minded that your brain falls out, though!

RogueFemale · 14/10/2024 21:43

Makes me think, Decorator man with Van.

A massive no vote.

PuddingAunt · 17/10/2024 22:06

Basketball player, goes by Dee Brown.
I would spell it DeCovan.
i think there's a risk with rare names that someone with the name will become notorious.

RobertaFirmino · 17/10/2024 22:32

For the love of all that is holy, please do not use the name 'Deacon'. I am of the age where it was used as a playground insult, for a really horrible reason.
