Lara - no debate about the pronunciation like there is with Lois
( Low-iss v Loyce)

Lois is ONLY pronounced Lowiss. Never Loyce.

She's gorgeous. Try out both and see what suits.
Lois would be my choice, and I don't think there'll be an issue unless you are in Wales ('Loyce' seems more prevalent there) or outside the UK.

Lara will blend into into the Clara and Lyra-type names and might seem samey.

Anyone saying Loyce is wrong - it's not even Welsh (it's Greek)

TheCultureHusks · 02/09/2024 11:31

Lara.

Lois is up there with Joyce and Yvonne for me! Weird name 😳

Fundays12 · 02/09/2024 11:43

Lara is a beautiful name. Lois is ok

MakeMeATea · 02/09/2024 11:47

I think I prefer Lara as Lois makes me think of family guy.

I'm Welsh and would pronounce it Loyce

KirstenBlest · 02/09/2024 19:29

The Greek pronunciation rhymes with Noise not Voice.

Temporarynamechange102 · 02/09/2024 19:30

Lois. Every day of the week. Lara is quite bland.

Northtosouth · 02/09/2024 19:31

Lara is lovely, I’ve never been keen on Lois , I don’t know why. Congratulations!

Well that's wrong, sorry!

KirstenBlest · 02/09/2024 21:04

@TallulahBetty , it's not wrong. It's the correct pronunciation of the name in Welsh.

MillenialAvocado · 02/09/2024 21:41

Congratulations, she's beautiful Flowers I like Lara! Xx

Derrymum123 · 02/09/2024 21:47

Lois is my favourite, but both names are excellent.

Lwrenn · 02/09/2024 22:39

@Dandysandy does little hen have a name? X

This is like saying the French pronunciation of Alice or Spanish pronunciation of Laura is incorrect - ignorant and rude.

Andoutcomethewolves · 03/09/2024 20:26

Lara. I'm 39 and have only ever met two (both gorgeous, intelligent, funny and charismatic incidentally!). I don't mind Lois but it is a bit drab to me in comparison and I think seems to be one of the next 'names of the moment', at least if suggestions on here are anything to go by (and depending whether that matters to you!).

Edited

Much more ignorant and rude to say someone's name wrong just because of the country you live in.

You are incredibly hard work.

I’ll leave you to your travels telling other nations they’re wrong.

KirstenBlest · 04/09/2024 15:57

@TallulahBetty , your post says a lot more about you than about the posters who accept that some names are pronounced differently in different languages.

You'd probably tell a French David that he was wrong for saying his name was Daveed.

babyno2isdue · 05/09/2024 10:03

Biased but Lois, my Lois is nearly 3 Grin also goes by Lo when she's being adorable and Lois when she's being feisty Blush

BeautyPageantDropout · 06/09/2024 00:33

I'd much rather be called Lara than Lois. Lois seems a bit drab to me.

Congrats on your lovely bundle Smile
