Final 4!

WolfMother326 · 26/08/2024 17:15

I've posted before, about a brother for Alasdair. Middle name will be Michael.

Our sweet baby is 2 weeks old and our final 4 name choices are:

Edmund
Adrian
Elliott
Rowan (too popular?)

Please don't suggest anything else but thoughts on these 4 would be helpful, thanks.

Hate Edmund. Not keen on Adrian. Rowan could be a girl. So I’m saying Elliott

KimFan · 26/08/2024 20:29

Elliott or Rowan. The others are not good.

Edenmum2 · 26/08/2024 21:05

Always loved Elliot and maybe Eli for short. Love Edmund but it'll get shortened to Eddie probably so it depends if you're happy with that

Edenmum2 · 26/08/2024 21:06

Just out of interest - every thread on names gets such a mix of answers...do the posters ever find it helpful?!

2chocolateoranges · 26/08/2024 21:09

Edmund- no too harsh sounding
Adrian- no
Elliot - is my favourite, I know an adult Elliot but no children with the name,
Rowan- to me is a girls name.

Everyoneesleistheproblem · 26/08/2024 21:19

I think Adrian is due a comeback. It's a late 70's name. Whereas Elliot and Rowan are popular a few years back and sounding like their time is over.
Not so fond of Edmund as he was the bad un in The Lion The Witch abd The Wardrobe. But it's classic.and neither downmarket or trendy

mommyandmore · 26/08/2024 21:22

Elliot 👍 Good luck and I hope this thread doesn't confuse you even more!

Violet17 · 26/08/2024 21:23

Elliot

HettyCletter · 26/08/2024 21:23

Edmund (and I’d shorten it to Ned. Unless you live in Scotland)

Moreteaandchocolate · 26/08/2024 21:26

My favourite is Elliott - it’s got a similar feel to Alasdair but a different first initial. I also really like Adrian and Rowan, but Adrian is another A name, and Rowan has a different vibe (to me). Edmund is more vintage than Alasdair (again, to me!)

GreatTheCat · 26/08/2024 21:53

Edmund. Particularly because I love Ed/Eddy.

Mumofgirls2017 · 26/08/2024 22:06

Elliott and Rowan are my favourites but Edmund best with alasdair I think

ladygindiva · 26/08/2024 22:07

Elliott
Fantastic name , love it

RosesAndHellebores · 26/08/2024 22:14

Edmund is my favourite but it doesn't work well with Michael imo. Edwin would work better if you don't favour Edward.

2nd Elliott
3rd Adrian
4th Rowan, which I have heard only for girls.

theduchessofspork · 26/08/2024 22:18

Edmund I think - Ned for short?

They are all quite nice

ZippyDenimBear · 26/08/2024 22:18

Adrian Mole, sorry.

Like Elliott. Even the most popular names (which Eliott is not) are not so populous, due to a wider range of names being used, so not really a consideration?

ZippyDenimBear · 26/08/2024 22:20

Reading back, Elliott seems pretty unanimous!

clarrylove · 26/08/2024 22:40

Edmund I think first, shortened to Ed. Goes well with Alasdair. Not Rowan for a boy. I know several but all are girls. Not keen on Elliott. Too many spellings and sounds dreadful when people drop the t at the end and the shortening is to feminine. Adrian, not sure. It's growing on me. But am not keen on the shortening Aid(s).

CakeRattleandRoll · 26/08/2024 23:08

Edmund
(Love Alasdair btw!)

Viviennemary · 26/08/2024 23:11

Edmund. Not keen
Adrian don't like at all
Elliott not keen but better than the others
Rowan - thought that was a girls name

Normallynumb · 27/08/2024 01:32

Rowan

BoleynMemories13 · 27/08/2024 04:51

Congratulations!

I only like Elliot (prefer one t spelling, less surnamey) and Rowan. I prefer Elliot with Alasdair.

Edmund is very old man. I know old man chic is in, but personally I can't get on board with this one. I much prefer Edward, which would go with Alasdair.

Really dislike Adrian. Middle age man, not ready for a comeback. I don't like repeated initials either.

Alasdair and Elliot make a lovely pairing.

This thread was definitely a bad idea for me, lol.

Rowan and Elliott my faves

My daughter had 2 Elliots (with same surname initial) in her class, so you may find that is more common than Rowan.

Given that your daughter is probably at least 5, that's not really relevant for OP. Name trends change fast, and as of most recent stats, Rowan is more popular than Elliot and rising whilst Elliot falls.
