I'm quite old, so it makes me think of Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine. So probably not for me as a baby name.

Me too 😆

Thismighthelp · 24/08/2024 23:02

The unstoppable sex machine for me too

Bigearringsbigsmile · 24/08/2024 23:03

The unstoppable sex machine

FlowersOfSulphur · 24/08/2024 23:56

Sorry OP, it's a no from me! DD used to have a friend whose father actually had another name but told me that I "could call him Carter". I had to stop myself from replying, "...the unstoppable sex machine?"

PiggieWig · 24/08/2024 23:58

Unstoppable Sex Machine

Enough4me · 25/08/2024 00:04

I agree with the poster who said, "too American and a little bit chav".

Mandarinaduck · 25/08/2024 00:07

I rather like it, it’s uncomplicated and quite strong.

SallyWD · 25/08/2024 03:25

Really dislike it.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 24/08/2024 21:34

I like it. I like other surname as first names too. Can't imagine many kids born now will know about an obscure band from 30 years ago.

If i have my way they will. I play them constantly to my DC.

Wallabyone · 25/08/2024 04:16

Where we live it's not pronounced properly, which would put me off.

catin8oots · 25/08/2024 05:18

Carter USM

Riapia · 25/08/2024 05:51

The 2nd mates name was Carter,
he was a musical farter
He could play anything from god save the king to Beethoven’s moonlight sonata.

Edingril · 25/08/2024 05:57

If a child could be born as 40yo man sure but for a baby no I really can't see it

PointyHairyLegHairs · 25/08/2024 05:58

I can't help it, 'unstoppable sex machine' just rolls off my tongue immediately! Almost unconsciously!

KimFan · 25/08/2024 06:01

Chavtastic!

It’s my surname .. when I was young a lot of children delighted in calling me carter farter …

Edited

My maiden name too. He will definitely be called Carter the Farter throughout his schooldays. Please think again, Op.

TrustPenguins · 25/08/2024 06:49

I wouldn't use it myself but I do quite like it. I like other surname names too though - Wilson, Jackson, Lincoln, Hudson...
Good luck OP.

Love it! But then I love surnames as first names, which my children have. I wish that I’d called my son Carter.

As for teasing at school, if children are going to poke fun, they will find a way to make any name rhyme or associated with something that raises a chuckle. I think it’s a name that suits all ages, but have no idea or experience to comment on whether it’s ‘chavtastic’ or ‘council estate’ 🤨🙄

RedOnyx · 25/08/2024 16:57

It makes me think of ER, but in that it was actually his last name. Personally I don't like it as an actual first name.

Use it OP. It's tough asking feedback on baby names on here as people don't state their own age.

Maybe they often prefer the name Keith, as that's what they're used to?

Love Carter. I'm 31.

You'd ask my grandmother for her feedback and she'd say 'oh that's god awful, how about Gary instead?'

I'm 41. I went to school with a Keith as it happens and thought it was an awful name even then.
