Having a lovely evening with my old Carter USM tracks thanks to this thread and reliving my youth 😄

theduchessofspork · 24/08/2024 20:04

I think these are hard to pull off in the Uk, like Cooper. It’s just try hard.

LittleGreenDuck · 24/08/2024 20:10

HarpieDuJour · 24/08/2024 19:17

I'm quite old, so it makes me think of Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine. So probably not for me as a baby name.

My first thought too! Not ideal for a child. Or anyone, really.

Moreteaandchocolate · 24/08/2024 20:28

Not one of my favourites but I don’t hate it.

user1471550643 · 24/08/2024 20:30

It’s my surname .. when I was young a lot of children delighted in calling me carter farter …

Firsttimebabymummy · 24/08/2024 20:32

Sorry I don't like it

Stichintime · 24/08/2024 20:34

Dreadful

Sailawaygirl · 24/08/2024 20:34

I like it. ( one of my imaginary friends when I was small was called Carter 😂) but I decided against it for my DS because I thought it was too American and a little bit chav. But if I met I Carter I would think ahh maybe I should have used that name!

What about
Cosmo
Jasper
Kerien
Griffin

penguinbiscuits · 24/08/2024 20:40

Use it OP. It's tough asking feedback on baby names on here as people don't state their own age.

Maybe they often prefer the name Keith, as that's what they're used to?

Love Carter. I'm 31.

You'd ask my grandmother for her feedback and she'd say 'oh that's god awful, how about Gary instead?'

batt3nb3rg · 24/08/2024 21:15

Very council estate. And I was raised on one so I would know.

I am 22 (adding my age to satisfy an above poster, I certainly don't like Keith or Gary)

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 24/08/2024 21:20

Not keen. Wasn't there a Carter in some idiotic American cartoon? But I agree that, like Cooper, it sounds try-hard in the UK.

Ikeatears · 24/08/2024 21:24

I had a student called Carter and he and his family were lovely. Brother had a surname type name too.

Farter Smile

You're a charm.

StMarieforme · 24/08/2024 21:27

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/08/2024 19:36

It's a job title. A person who drives a horse drawn cart.

John is a toilet. Or a man who uses sex workers.

Silly argument.

StMarieforme · 24/08/2024 21:28

Weefreetiffany · 24/08/2024 19:45

Eh its a grim american fashion to be so obsessed with capitalism that you call your child after a profession instead of giving them a name.

Are you ok?

drunken · 24/08/2024 21:31

Carter USM I wouldn't 🤣

NGCO · 24/08/2024 21:31

My wee boys called Carter and I love it 💙

chattyness · 24/08/2024 21:33

shallweorderpizza · 24/08/2024 19:12

Farter Smile

Or Sharter, please don't do that to your child

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 24/08/2024 21:34

I like it. I like other surname as first names too. Can't imagine many kids born now will know about an obscure band from 30 years ago.

For you, maybe. I think it's a valid reason for not liking the name.

Well I’m 34 and think it’s quite a bad name. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a baby name thread this heavily negative! I’ve certainly heard worse but as PP have said it’s a touch chavvy.

BiggerBoat1 · 24/08/2024 21:50

A big no. Sorry, but you did ask!

cheezncrackers · 24/08/2024 21:54

The only Carter I know is a little sh*t, so no!

Weefreetiffany · 24/08/2024 21:54

StMarieforme · 24/08/2024 21:28

Yes doing well thanks. I suppose you’re leaving sassy replies because you’re blessed with a profession first name, or called Carter? Remember opinions are like bumholes, everybody has them.

Strokethefurrywall · 24/08/2024 22:01

My nearly 13 year old is Carter and has never once been called Farter by his peers.

We're British but not in UK, and DH is Scottish so both our boys have surnames for first names.

I love it obviously ❤️
