What were you nearly called?

I was nearly called Deborah or Scarlett.

They were in my parents top three names.

Then they finally chose my name.

I feel a bit of a connection to those other two names.

Barbara Ann or Wednesday...
Wtaf was she thinking?. Have a 'name' song that's not very popular at all!

imnotthatkindofmum · 08/08/2024 19:14

If I was a boy I would have been Keith. Bloody awful name!! I think
My name was set in stone as I was named after a great aunt.

My girls could have been Charlotte, Constance and Avery. None of these names suit them now lol

If I'd been a boy (mother wanted 3 and ended up with 1 girl) Pierre!

Dontknowwhyidoit · 08/08/2024 19:17

Chantelle Louise

Clueless2024 · 08/08/2024 19:17

Carly. Or Melissa. I wish they went with Carly, it was decidedly less common than my actual name. I went to school with like 5 other my names.

Funnily enough, I unintentionally did that to DD1. Her name is common & everywhere.

Mrsjayy · 08/08/2024 19:18

Christina ? I'm not sure how I feel about it I would have definitely been my dad's name if I was a boy.

Morag

Gumbo · 08/08/2024 19:19

Dierdre. Thankfully my father made my mother see sense. (He wanted to call me Stephanie, which I actually would have loved, by my mother vetoed it...)

TeenToTwenties · 08/08/2024 19:19

Susan.
But luckily my cousin was born a couple of months before and stole the name.

Blondiney · 08/08/2024 19:19

Jade. My father put his foot down though.

IggyAce · 08/08/2024 19:20

Roberta

Sfxde24 · 08/08/2024 19:20

My parents changed my name when I was 2. I was called Ann. I am now not!

ItsMintUpNorth · 08/08/2024 19:20

Holly, there was 5 in my year at high school so glad I wasn't!

KezzabellaB · 08/08/2024 19:21

If I'd have been a boy I was going to be called Jonathan James (yes just like the shoe shop!) Grin

Meadowwild · 08/08/2024 19:21

Deborah - which I hate. Not sure why, I just hate it.

Or Miriam, which I love.

My name is okay. I wouldn't choose it and it's not that popular so clearly most other people feel the same. Grin

ElspethofEcclefechan · 08/08/2024 19:22

No idea! I have 3 x given names though as I think they expected me to be their last dc and only dd. Surprise dsis arrived two years later though!

My dcs were nearly Elizabeth and Marcus. Dd would have been James if a boy, but I'd gone off it by the time we had ds. Ds would have been Maria

USaYwHatNow · 08/08/2024 19:22

Mallory

Coastalcreeksider · 08/08/2024 19:22

Karen. In view of how the name is used as a sneery put down these days, I'm glad they didn't call me that.

Jessieshome · 08/08/2024 19:24

Estella (from Great Expectations)
Rosina (after a great grandmother)
Or Andrew if I was a boy.

honeyfox · 08/08/2024 19:24

Elaine.

My brother would have been Raymond.

Anabella321 · 08/08/2024 19:25

Déirdre.

tillytoodles1 · 08/08/2024 19:25

Agnes after my Nan as my dad was an only child. Luckily my mum chose to call me after herself instead.

Justme2023123 · 08/08/2024 19:25
