What were you nearly called?

I was nearly called Deborah or Scarlett.

They were in my parents top three names.

Then they finally chose my name.

I feel a bit of a connection to those other two names.

If I was a boy I was going to be called Joel.
And the other options for my name were Daisy and Eden.

evtheria · 08/08/2024 21:40

Anaïs

Blarn · 08/08/2024 21:40

Kirsty. I imagine my second name would still have been Louise though as I was born in the 80s!

Hummusanddipdip · 08/08/2024 21:43

Naomi, only didn't happen because (bit outing) my grandparents kicked off.

I would have been Daniel if I was a boy.

changedusernameforthis1 · 08/08/2024 21:48

My Mum really wanted to call me Abigail. I'm forever grateful that my Dad hated it.
I was also told that I'd have been called Luke had I been born male. That's not so bad, I could have lived with that.

Usernamechangeforthis12 · 08/08/2024 21:49

I was very nearly Clare until Gilbert O’Sullivan released ‘Clair’ and every other girl seemed to get the name.

I prefer my name. If I’d been a boy I’d have been Simon. Or possibly Edward which I’d have liked.

Probateprobs · 08/08/2024 22:01

Ianto if I'd been a boy.

Borgonzola · 08/08/2024 22:10

Miriam Grin

Borgonzola · 08/08/2024 22:10

My mother was nearly called Blodwen Grin

grapefruitnights · 08/08/2024 22:11

Harley

Yes, my dad was called David.

Thankfully I was a girl. Though it was only a marginally better option.

LardiLaLardiLi · 08/08/2024 22:11

I would have been Maria or Contantin if I were a boy, both of which I quite like. I ended up with a popular name and always had at lease 2 other girls with the same name in a class. Still love my name, though.

saltytowers · 08/08/2024 22:12

I was nearly Claire. The registrar commented that it was a really popular name and my mum decided she didn't want that. So gave me an equally popular name of the time.

There were 3 of us with my name in my class at primary school. And one Claire 😂

MistyGreenAndBlue · 08/08/2024 22:17

Shona - but my mum decided it didnt go with our surname - or Eve.
I dislike my name but these are worse so... 🤷‍♀️

Abigail47 · 08/08/2024 22:18

It's funny that we all end up what we are called because one parent overrules the other.

My dad's choices were overruled by my mums

Born 1973. If I had been a boy I was to be called Crawford.

Thank heavens for that lucky escape!

CasaRosas1 · 08/08/2024 22:19

Girl names my mother had picked for me. Georgina, Danielle, Ashley. Alexis or Leigh.

My mother had no boy names picked.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 08/08/2024 22:20

Elizabeth or Robert.

newtomoney · 08/08/2024 22:24

I'm Sara.. but for some reason always be known as Sarah.. why did she name me that way? I have always had an identity crisis as almost every day people asked me if I am Sara or Sarah.. I am 67 now, for God sake I should know my own name!

My alternative name would've been Charlotte and I would've been Lottie so much easier!!

CheatingMenz · 08/08/2024 22:27

If I had been a boy, Oliver.
If my DB had been a girl, Antonia
If my sister had been a boy, Westley.

Squirrelsnut · 08/08/2024 22:28

Sarah. It was enormously popular at the time. I have 3 friends called Sarah. In the end I got a more unusual name.

BinkyBeaufort · 08/08/2024 22:31

Dad wanted Audrey, Mum wanted Alison, which I actually wouldn't have minded as it took me a couple of decades to learn to like the name they eventually settled on.

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/08/2024 22:36

Clarissa! 🤷‍♀️

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/08/2024 22:37

If been a boy, Adrian. My sister almost called verity

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 08/08/2024 22:44

Siobhan or Siobahn.

Edited to say lucky I wasn’t as I can’t spell it!

ghislaine · 08/08/2024 22:49

Dad wanted to call me Pamela after a character on a tv show. I am not called Pamela.

I would have been Andrew had I been a boy.
