We like the name Ramona but have no Spanish connections. What do you think of the name and does it work for an English girl?

Cool

cheapskatemum · 20/07/2024 19:28

Surely I can't be the only one who immediately thought of Ramona in Cold Feet? She was hilarious - and very Spanish. It's not a name I'd use, but if you like it, go for it.

Bichette · 20/07/2024 19:31

I like it
Also Romy and Paloma

Needmorelego · 20/07/2024 19:32

@MyblackVWTiguan Yes Beezus was actually Beatrice.
Ramona couldn't say it properly as a toddler.

DeathpunchDan · 20/07/2024 19:36

Common Eastern European name too, and I love it. Use it if you want to. My name isn't commonly English but no one cares.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/07/2024 19:47

@Needmorelego oh yes, I forgot about her.

MaxJLHardy · 20/07/2024 19:59

Love this version of the Dylan song: open.spotify.com/track/7KErEKHHj81Oeaepb2o9yC?si=VYy4ZapnTayWeH1BJ2YnCw

Interested in how you arrived at Marnie.

I get Mona (Moaner), but not Marnie.

As for Hummous? 😂

I know someone called Ramona who goes by Marnie!

DramaLlamaBangBang · 20/07/2024 20:41

I love it, again because ofvthe Ramona Quimby books. Not too weird but not common. Fab name. Choose it. I don't think it matters if it's more common in Spain and you aren't Spanish. You could use Romy as a nn if you are worried about ' moana'

Needmorelego · 20/07/2024 19:20

@Toddlerteaplease I liked the name of Howie's little sister - Willa Jean !
(sorry @ghouliee if you don't know the Ramona Quimby books this probably means nothing to you)

Willa Jean! This thread is bringing back memories!

marthasmum · 20/07/2024 20:45

There is also a Bob Dylan song about Ramona that you might want to listen to if you’re going to use the name. Lovely name

Nitw1t · 20/07/2024 20:46

I LOVE Ramona.

I had 2 DSs and done though....

TheBirdintheCave · 20/07/2024 21:31

I'm not a fan but there's nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't worry about not having any Spanish connections. Europe is a huge melting pot. I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid at an English Ramona. My daughter is Marcella and we have no Italian connection (she's named after an Irish great aunt) and no one's ever asked us about it either.

DaftyLass · 20/07/2024 21:32

I love it, but am partial as we have sister cats called Beatrice and Ramona, and they are lovely

Honestly, the name is beautiful

Firsttimebabymummy · 20/07/2024 22:05

I really like it

Kitkat1523 · 20/07/2024 22:07

I don’t hate it….and I reckon it could grow on me

EffinMagicFairy · 20/07/2024 22:12

Not a fan because of ‘Mona’ sound, DD has a friend called Romina (Romeena) - I much prefer this.

Appalonia · 20/07/2024 22:14

Nice name, I had a lovely friend with that name, think it was spelt Rahmona tho.

Werweisswohin · 20/07/2024 22:23

I don't like or dislike it.
The main downside I can see is not being able to complain about anything, otherwise you'll be known as Ra-moan-a.

longdistanceclaraclara · 21/07/2024 10:57

@FourToTheMFingFloor it's a hummous brand

FourToTheMFingFloor · 21/07/2024 11:09

Oh right @longdistanceclaraclara

I think the kid will be ok, and the others in the playground won't be calling her HummousHead or anything 😆

Mochudubh · 21/07/2024 13:13

I was going to say it was a Dr Who companion from the 70s but I wisely Googled and that was Romana. I like both though.
