We like the name Ramona but have no Spanish connections. What do you think of the name and does it work for an English girl?

I really like it, entirely because I loved the Ramona Quimby books when I was little (set in America). I actually had no idea it is a Spanish name, I’ve never met a Ramona in real life.

CoalTit · 20/07/2024 14:40

i like it very much because it's classic and feminine without being frilly. It will travel well, too and people won't have problems spelling it or pronouncing it either in the UK or in other countries.

IWannaBeYourGoyfriend · 20/07/2024 14:44

Lots of English people have names originating from elsewhere in the world otherwise they’d be called Frythegith or Elswyth or whatever. Ramona is beautiful.

youcantescapeyourownmindrose · 20/07/2024 14:45

I love it!
Reminds me of the song by Beck.

Longdarkcloud · 20/07/2024 14:46

The only Ramona I can recall is the young actress who was in the tv sitcom Outnumbered. She was absolutely adorable and very English with blonde ringlets. I believe there is to be a Christmas special of Outnumbered this year showing the kids as young adults.
I think the name is pretty much anglicised now and not regarded as out and out foreign. There’s also a song you can sing your wee one!

BobbyBiscuits · 20/07/2024 14:48

I absolutely love it. Could be shortened to Romi.
Yeah, it sounds cool. I grew up with Beezus and Ramona books so maybe that's why?

IWannaBeYourGoyfriend · 20/07/2024 14:48

Ramona Marquez from Outnumbered has Spanish ancestry.

Echobelly · 20/07/2024 14:48

Yeah, I love it, very pretty and a bit different.

Needmorelego · 20/07/2024 14:49

I associate it with the book character Ramona Quimby who is from Portland, Oregon.
She is one of the best book characters ever so I love the name.
(never knew it was Spanish.....)

Joolsin · 20/07/2024 14:49

I absolutely love it, would have used it but for the sad fact that it sounds ridiculous with our surname.

Dollychopsporkchops · 20/07/2024 14:49

As long as you have a another daughter and call her beezus

Lolatusernamesuggestions · 20/07/2024 14:49

I really like it.

Nicebloomers · 20/07/2024 15:02

Lovely name. Cool girl vibes.

toastofthetown · 20/07/2024 15:04

I really like Ramona. I think it works fine for an English girl - I’d have no qualms using it.

NextFriYAY · 20/07/2024 15:07

Great! 😉

skinnyoptionsonly · 20/07/2024 15:07

It kind of makes me think of pneumonia

I REALLY want to like it though !

Thewheelweavesasthewheelwills · 20/07/2024 15:09

I don't dislike it, but I don't like it either. I have no reason why though.

You can def us it without a Spanish connection though. Loads of names popular here are from the continent

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 20/07/2024 15:14

I love it, also a big fan of the Ramona Quimby books as a child.

ghouliee · 20/07/2024 15:16

More positive than I expected! Thank you everyone :)
