Boy name list - what do you think?

We've got a long shortlist, sort of. I'm hoping one of these really grows on me because we can't seem to find any we both love and can use! DS will take both our surnames and one is quite long, so we're after a shortish name. Avoiding V names, B names for alliterative madness, and anything ending in 'orin.' Also a bit wary of anything too surname-sounding because he'll have enough of those!

Iven
Iver
Levin (Lev)
Linus
Lowen
Rohmer
Liev (Lee-ev, like Liev Schreiber)
Asa
Innes / Ennis
Ellis
Keir (probs not though thanks to Starmer🙄)
Rowe
Eugene (Gene)
Aneurin (exception to the 'rin' rule)
Orson
Silas
Lincoln (love Linc as a nn)
Irvin
Oren (Ren)
Ernest

What do you think? Middle name James or August (for my late dad) possibly, if either fits.

V names we like but can't use: Virgil, Vaughan. Otto is okay, but can't use it or Otis either. Ditto 'Eli' or 'Elias.' We're surrounded by boys, so it rules out a LOT. Even if we wanted a more traditional name! 😩

@AppleCream , Anna Karenina is where I pinched it from! Glad someone likes that as it’s one of my faves 🙂

I really like it @deliwoman1! Original but still easy to spell and pronounce. And the character in AK is great!

SleepingStandingUp · 19/07/2024 10:33

Liev - what about Leif?
Liev August Vanderborgen-Billickshire
Leif August Vanderborgen-Billickshire

Ellis August Vanderborgen-Billickshire

Lincoln August Vanderborgen-Billickshire

Oren (Ren) August Vanderborgen-Billickshire

Artemis August Vanderborgen-Billickshire?

Seth August Vanderborgen-Billickshire

BingoMarieHeeler · 19/07/2024 10:38

We don’t want anything to rhyme with Corrine specifically. Oren doesn’t and we’d shorten to Ren probably.

Corrine as in Cuh-reen? Or Cuh-RIN? I’d say Oren as O-run FWIW.

Nicebloomers · 19/07/2024 10:42

Love Ernest
Like Orson and Gene

Marchbug · 19/07/2024 10:52

We have an Ennis, we've never met another. He said recently that he's 'thankful for his name as it's unique'. Absolutely wasn't picked for that reason, just loved it, but glad he does too ❤️

Marchbug · 19/07/2024 10:54

Also love Gene which was our plan for our next DS (currently 36wks) but as soon as we found out was a boy we just knew he wasn't a Gene, was weird!

Xelawho · 19/07/2024 11:48

I think it’s an interesting and cool list. Really like Asa James as well as Silas. August was one of our top names but we weren’t keen on Gus as a nn and felt we couldn’t go with Auggie and doom the child to a lifetime of ‘Oi Oi Oi!’

Mumofgirls2017 · 19/07/2024 16:11

I like Linus, Ernest, Ellis, Orson, Silas, Lincoln

Lidlisthebusiness · 19/07/2024 16:13

I think Oren goes best with Vada, and also like it with your potential middles. I don't think I'd go traditional along with your daughters name, it doesn't flow.

Oren James
Oren August

Other suggestions might be:

Jude August
Orion James
Zane August
Zander James
Emrys James
Jago James

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 19/07/2024 16:15

I like Ellis or Ennis, dislike the rest.

Silas and Ernest are lovely!

FayCarew · 22/07/2024 11:44

I like Innes but not Ennis. I like Dennis.

greglet · 22/07/2024 12:02

Magnus
Soren
Stellan

CurlewKate · 22/07/2024 12:12

Honestly? I don't like any of them except Keir.

How about Ivo? Or Leo. Or Hugh.

hlc123 · 22/07/2024 12:51

Like Ellis, Orson and Lincoln

FayCarew · 22/07/2024 13:23

Iven, Iver - both strange spellings. Ivan and Ivar are fine, Iven and Iver unnecessarily complicated
Levin (Lev) - surname.
Linus - Lie-nus or Leenoos?
Lowen - Cornish for happy?
Rohmer - looks like a surname. Not particularly nice
Liev (Lee-ev, like Liev Schreiber) - too associated with actor
Asa - fine.Makes me think of Asa Briggs
Innes / Ennis - Innes nice. Don't like Ennis
Ellis - fine
Keir - Keir Hardie/Startmer
Rowe - surname. Doesn't work as a first name
Eugene (Gene) - dreadful. Makes me think of Eugenics. Gene sounds like Jean.
Aneurin (exception to the 'rin' rule) - An urine? Just use Nye.
Orson - makes me think of Arson
Silas - Marner
Lincoln (love Linc as a nn) - fine. A bit American
Irvin - Irvine, Irving confusion
Oren (Ren) - Welsh for Orange?
Ernest - drove the fastest milkcart in the west? OK otherwise

** Apologies to any Welsh Aneurins. It's a nice name but the spelling might not work internationally.

@deliwoman1 , Corinne is nice but your list seems too long, too random and a bit try-hard.

I'd cut it down to Asa, Innes, Silas and Lincoln.

Ernest August too child of York princesses.
James is lovely but an unimaginative middle name

salamithumbs · 22/07/2024 13:23

I like Ellis the best from your list. Quite like Asa and Innes too although Ennis to me is too much of a place name...
Would Rowan be an option?

BinkyBeaufort · 22/07/2024 17:41

Like Lincoln and Asa, not at all keen on the others.

Drew
Leon
Patrick
Cole (although it does sound surname-y
Felix

muddyford · 22/07/2024 17:44

Would spell Ivor and Ivan, rather than your way.

deliwoman1 · 22/07/2024 20:48

Thanks, everyone. Still no closer whatsoever to one we love (and can use), but I guess we'll keep at it!

OP posts:
Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 22/07/2024 20:52

I like Asa James

Daisybuttercup12345 · 30/07/2024 21:23

I only like Lincoln.
Levi?
Morten sounds like a mortician.

Martin?

Calliopespa · 30/07/2024 21:25

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 22/07/2024 20:52

I like Asa James

Honestly I think Asa looks like the d dropped out of Asda.
