Thoughts on these names?
The A and the lie are to honour somebody.

I've got a friend with a young adult Annelie, I think it is a lovely name and I've never met another.

Firsttimebabymummy · 16/07/2024 13:05

I really like Ashlie but spelt Ashley or Ashleigh.

I do like Amelie and Annelie too! Annelie more as has the potential nicknames of Ann / Nell / Elle / Ellie etc

Don't like Arelie at all..

RatalieTatalie · 16/07/2024 13:11

I love Annelie

MistyHazelFox · 16/07/2024 13:30

I don't like Annelie because it's too similar to anal to my ears
I like Amelie or Ashlie the best.
I think when you're honoring someone with smoosh name, you might end up with honored person feeling less honored compared to situation where you do no honoring at all. But if you ask, surprise is ruined, and it might be really hard to ask about honoring without blowing up the honoring... especially if you change your mind.

They are all pretty, but I’d pick Amelie as it’s the most familiar so easier in terms of spelling it out for people (I’m all for an easy life!) I also agree that Annelie is a little close to anally. How about just Annie as another A - ie name?

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 16/07/2024 14:24

I only like Amelie from that list… Ashlie is spelt wrongly and I’ve never heard of the others before.

StormingNorman · 16/07/2024 14:38

Amelie or Aurelie

Theoldwoman · 16/07/2024 15:06

I love Amelie.

Amalie is another option.

RookieMa · 16/07/2024 15:24

The spellings grate

So I can only recommend Amelie

Shielehdie · 16/07/2024 15:33

I like Amelie. The others feel a little like they’re trying too hard to be unusual. Amelie is very pretty, I would go with that.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 16/07/2024 15:49

Is the first name a typo of Aurelie ? Will you add an accent on the first e?

I wouldn’t use Ashlie and Annelie because of the spelling issue. If you’re in the US you can probably get away with the spelling but if you’re in the UK, incorrect spelling gives an impression of parental education being limited which is unfair on your dd.
That leaves Amelie - would you add an accent to the first e?

No not a typo. Areli is a biblical name but would spell it Arelie due to needing the "lie" on the end

Arelie - looks made up
Annelie- I'm only familiar with the Anneli spelling
Amelie - fine, a bit dull
Ashlie - bad spelling

I don't get how 'A lie' is honouring anyone.

KirstenBlest · 16/07/2024 16:59

Areli is a male name from the Bible.

BobbyBiscuits · 16/07/2024 17:02

Azelie. Some of the others sound a bit made up.
Azelie is french for azalea, the flower.

Radiatorvalves · 16/07/2024 17:02

Annerley is near Crystal Palace in London. I’d avoid that one (nasty busy hill)! Like Amelie.

KirstenBlest · 16/07/2024 17:23

How about Allie?

WaitingForMojo · 16/07/2024 17:26

Aurelie? Adelie?

Aworldofmyown · 16/07/2024 17:28

We have a Arrielle in the family.

Firsttimebabymummy · 16/07/2024 17:35

As above, how about Allie?

Ally/Allie is nice on its own but can also be a nn to longer name...
Alice
Alexandra
Alicia
Alyssa
Alia
Alana
Aliza
Alesha
... you get the idea xx

bloodyeffinnora · 16/07/2024 17:42

Amelie is my favourite but I like the pp suggestion of Azalie too

CurlewKate · 16/07/2024 17:46

Amelie is fine- the others (sorry) are just misspellings.

miniaturepixieonacid · 16/07/2024 17:51

I know a little Annelie - really pretty name. I prefer it to Amelie because it's more unusual. I quite like the sound of Arelie but I do see it as male, even with the e on the end. I don't like Ashlie with that spelling, it just looks wrong. Ashley and Ashleigh are fine, imo, but get that they don't work for you because of your spelling needs.

Other ideas:
Aurelie (sounds too much like 'orally' imo but looks pretty)
Airlie (gender neutral according to Google)
Amberlie (should be spelled Amberley really but could work as an ie)
Allie (maybe as a diminutive for a non A-lie name like Alyssa, Alison or Alice)

TheShiningCarpet · 16/07/2024 17:54

beware aurélie / orally

KirstenBlest · 16/07/2024 18:03

That extra r n Arrielle hurts my eyes.
