Thoughts on these names?
The A and the lie are to honour somebody.

Amelie is lovely ❤️

Arelie - I'm not sure this is really a name

Annelie - I'd prefer it spelt Anneli but do quite like it

Amelie - has been very popular but I still like it. I'd like it best out of the four names exactly as you wrote them, but slightly prefer Anneli without the last e.

Ashlie - just looks like changing the ending of a boy's name to make it more girly.

How about Leia?

Marmiteontoastgirlie · 17/07/2024 04:14

Please don’t invent spellings for your child’s name, it would be a tragedeigh.

PeriIsKickingMyButt · 17/07/2024 05:49

Only Amelie. Are you sure that using A and ie is actually honouring someone? It's a bit tenuous

ArcticBells · 17/07/2024 05:56

Everyone will spell Ashlie wrong

They are all pretty, but I’d pick Amelie as it’s the most familiar so easier in terms of spelling it out for people (I’m all for an easy life!) I also agree that Annelie is a little close to anally. How about just Annie as another A - ie name?

I agree: Amelie is classic and beautiful and, to anglophone ears, a little fresh and different? (Maybe not in France!)

It does the trick of honouring as you wish, but is also a proper name in and of itself.

The others have a different vibe entirely to me. Ashlie is a proper name but much more unisex and American- sounding

Annelie sounds way too much like anally. I can just hear a French accent saying “ so this pessary is to be used Ann- e-lie.”

Arelie I just don’t really like: it sounds like a dog growling and a bit made-up

I know a little Annelie - really pretty name. I prefer it to Amelie because it's more unusual. I quite like the sound of Arelie but I do see it as male, even with the e on the end. I don't like Ashlie with that spelling, it just looks wrong. Ashley and Ashleigh are fine, imo, but get that they don't work for you because of your spelling needs.

Other ideas:
Aurelie (sounds too much like 'orally' imo but looks pretty)
Airlie (gender neutral according to Google)
Amberlie (should be spelled Amberley really but could work as an ie)
Allie (maybe as a diminutive for a non A-lie name like Alyssa, Alison or Alice)

Airlie sounds like a marketing name for a new type of business class seat on BA.

Are you honouring two people as a middle name? If so just use their names or the feminine version (it they're men) as middle names. I only like Amelie from your list but it sounds like Emily so she'll be correcting people all her life.

AppleCream · 17/07/2024 06:11

Amelie is my favourite.

MirandaBlu · 17/07/2024 06:20

Annelie isn't inherently a misspelling, it's just a different linguistic form from Anneli and has a history of use in different countries - similar to Elizabeth vs Elisabeth or Susana vs Susannah or Steven vs Stephen. Neither's really well established in most English-speaking countries but it looks like Annelie has recently been more common than Anneli as a baby name in the UK: https://names.darkgreener.com/#anneli

Do you need the "a" to be the first letter of the name? If not, there are various other names with "a" + "lie" such as Rosalie, Coralie, Nat(h)alie, Marlies, Maëlie, Anneliese. I like Amelie (or Amalie) best of the names you listed; Adélie is nice too.

Grannyinnwaiting · 17/07/2024 11:21

Amelie all day long - pure beautiful name
