Honest opinions on the following girls names please?!

Or any suggestions because I have had enough of looking and trying to find something I like. Really want something pretty/cute but not massively popular :/

Ettilie (Ettie)
Pixie
Rune
Wren
Nell (Nellie?)

I like unusual.

I knew a Pixie, who was officially a Patrixia (Italian heritage, just checked, maybe it was Patrizia). Either way, if you don't want to go full-on Pixie, a name that can be modified to fit it, but works easily as a more mainstream name if she can't carry it off/doesn't want to, could be an option.

Ettilie is new to me, but (in a USA context) I have come across Ettaline, Ettalena and similar as kind of compound names. I probably would avoid this one if your partner can't say t though!

Rune is a legit name in various Scandinavian languages, but it's traditionally male - Runa or Rúna would be the female form.

Pixie will always be to me the horrible woman Linda's ex-husband Tony married in Love In a Cold Climate.

Wren works fine as stand-alone; can be kind of unisex as it's sometimes used for boys/men as a shortening of Lawrence.

Nell seems the most "normal" to me - traditionally short for some form of Eleanor(e)/Elinor, but why not as a stand-alone? If you don't want the longer forms I'd probably use Nell and make it into Nellie as a pet name/diminutive.

I love the name Wren! I've worked in childcare and education for years and haven't met anyone with that name. It's a name that's perfect for a baby or an adult, I think.

JimNast · 11/07/2024 08:41

Wren is awful.

SD1978 · 11/07/2024 08:45

Your names need to work for an adult, not be adorable and unique for a child. They will be an adult much longer than they are babies for. And adult pixie sounds ridiculous. Rune, not much better. Names need to be something an adult isn't going to be embarrassed to say in a professional environment

Fifthtimelucky · 11/07/2024 13:02

I only like Nell from your list, but I would use Eleanor and then shorten it to Nell.

DracoDormiensNumquamTittilandum · 11/07/2024 13:08

WTF is Ettilie? Why not Etta if you like that sound? Don't just be inventing names.

KayEmAy · 11/07/2024 16:09

I love a pretty but spunky girl name :)

Ettilie (Ettie) - my least favorite of the bunch, just isn't my style
Pixie - I think it would make a cool middle name
Rune - meh
Wren - I do like it this name but I actually really like Ren/Wren for a boy
Nell (Nellie?) - This one has really grown on me over the last few years! I've seen it as a stand alone name as well as a nickname for Noelle

Other ideas based on these:

Demi
Vallie
Belle
Cassia nn Cas, Sia
Bay
Roxie
Kyla
Dove
Thea nn Teddy

I love Ettie and Pixie. Nellie and Wren are ok but Rune is just Jackson's awful cousin from Gilmore Girls so would be a big No! for me.

That's exactly who I thought of when I read rune🤣

Bathbombin · 11/07/2024 17:03

Ettilie (Ettie) - I like Ettie, but not Ettilie
Pixie - no, conjures up an image of a fairy dressed in petals, with an empty acorn top for a hat. Very cute, but also very silly.
Rune - a stone, not a name
Wren - acceptable
Nell (Nellie) - I like it
