What are your thoughts on the name Coral?

Would it be too old fashioned? Too "under the sea"?

My son's have top 10 biblical names so this would be a bit out there and not really fit with their names?

The other name I've been thinking about is Grace. But is Grace too boring? Had it's day?

In what way is Coral not a name? It has been a name since the late 1800s according to Wikipedia. Plenty of famous - and non-famous - Corals.

I quite like it (had no idea about the betting shops - that might put me off.)

How about Pearl? That has biblical connotations from the beautiful medieval poem Pearl.

Biblical boys' names do seem more lovely generally than biblical girls' names but there's still some gorgeous ones to choose from:

Not keen. I think of an 80s tart, frankly.
Or conversely an older lady with a blue rinse but a curtain twitcher.
You could say that about all the baby names used for the past 15 years.

Hardly. About half the names are boy's names. Using words like tart is sexist.

Boys' names aren't old lady, so 'all names' isn't true.

Maryam/Miriam - known a lot of older people name Miriam so not great association.
Elizabeth - Too Many shortenings prefer shorter names. Eliza has been used. Like Elsa but still too Frozen I think.
Esther - dislike
Susannah - too long will be shortened
Rebecca - grew up with too many with this name
Ruth (I love this, even though it's not hugely popular) - again was a friend who died
Hannah - lovely but feels dated to me (loads in my year at school)
Jemima - love bit would be shortened
Leah/Lia - Lia is nice but means weary or bitter which is not good.
Martha - Martha monkey?
Rachel - grew up with this not great
Sarah - same
Judith - associate with old lady
Tabitha (love this) - again grew up with some really horrible ones.

So not ideal. I like Eden. I like Hannah just not sure Id use. Like Lia (this spelling but meaning put me off), like Shiloh although it's unisex, like Ariel but would likely spell Arielle, but maybe bit trendy.

Its a hebrew name.

Are you going for a Little Mermaid theme OP? Ariel & Coral are taking it a bit far, you’re naming a real life human being, not a Disney princess 😵‍💫

I like it, the under the sea link wouldn't put me off and find it less old fashioned than Cora. Marina? I like Grace but would choose Coral or Coralie.

@stressedespresso I wouldn't use both Coral and Arielle. I like Arielle, as it's a more feminine version of Ariel which is biblical and all my boys have biblical names. So no not going for a little mermaid theme. I'm just trying to find a name I love, which is proving impossible

Unfortunately I know of one Coral - her children get in to fights and her boyfriend’s in prison. If I didn’t know her, I still wouldn’t choose it as it’s the name of a large betting shop chain in the UK. How about Cora?

Grace is a beautiful name! Whether there’s 1 in a school, or 2, or 3 - it’s a classic name and loved for a reason.

Coral is a very beautiful name, I love it.

Coralie (suggested by previous posters) is lovely!

I work with a Coral in her 50's. She is brilliant. The name is unusual but also easy to spell and pronounce. I adore her so am biased towards this name!
