Hi all

I'm due a little girl in a few months and absolutely love the name Ella, but our surname begins with an L and when you say them together it kind of blurs into one.

I've been trying to think of other names we could call her but then use Ella as a nn, but I can only come up with Stella which I don't like.

Any ideas?

Other names we like to give you our sort of taste are; Sophia, Ada, Zara, Grace

We also have a little boy who has a short, top 10 name.

But I agree with others you should stick with Ella if you love it.

If your issue is that “Ella does not work with our surname as it begins with an L,” then I don’t recommend calling her something else and using Ella as a nickname either, because that’s going to end up being the same problem; she’ll still end being referred to as “Ella Lewis” or whatever and it will sound awkward. Same thing if you choose a name like Eloise or Elodie, as she may end up being “Ellie” which will also sound “off.” I think you need to make peace with that fact that “El-“ names or nicknames are not going to work with your surname and choose something else. What about Clara, Nina or Rosa, if you like simple feminine names that are reasonably popular?

Elinor, Alice, Rosie

Alisa, you still get the el sound.

You're all brilliant, thank you so much!!

The ones that have gone onto my list are;
Elodie
Elouise
Cora
Gabriella
Mia

I'm also not going to rule Ella out completely.... I do love it so much. Perhaps I could give her my surname instead 🤣

These are all so much nicer than Ella!

If you still like Ella, there's a lot in in the same Emma Ava Eva Evie Isla style but tbh they all blend into each other.

From your last list, Gabriella is really pretty and fits with Ella as a nn.

My adult Dd is Ella, our surname begins with L, it never entered my head people might think it a bad combination, has never been an issue.

@NewUser1111 oooh love Elodie and Elouise!! Thank you!

Elouise is an awful spelling of Eloise, and she'll probably be Ellie, so she'll be Ellie L. anyway.

dancingqueen345 · 28/09/2024 17:33

@VoteLabour did that sound more polite in your head as you typed it?
