Coast for a baby boy name?

DH works at sea and we live near the beach and have always loved it!

Is it too out there? I'm imagining I'm going to get some negative opinions but thought I'd see!

I like it. We have friends who called their DD Sealoa, which as a seaman your DH would understand.

StSwithinsDay · 21/04/2024 22:04

Would you like to be called Coast?

Viewfrommyhouse · 21/04/2024 22:05

It's a clothing shop. No.

Moreteaandchocolate · 21/04/2024 22:06

Sorry, it’s a bit too out there for my taste

ghislaine · 21/04/2024 22:06

Ocean
Oisin
Alexander nn Sandy
Cliff
River

MumChp · 21/04/2024 22:07

Works fine. It's nice.
To me Coast is a unisex name so would choose a boyish name as middlename.

@StSwithinsDay

I wouldn't mind.

DappledThings · 21/04/2024 22:08

Awful.

Moveoverdarlin · 21/04/2024 22:12

I don’t think it’s ’out there’ I think it’s just a bit cringe and ‘simple’. When people say ‘ooh what an interesting name, why Coast?’ And you reply ‘his Dad works at sea and we live on the coast’ I think people will be surprised there’s not a more articulate explanation. It’s like living rurally and having a Dad that works in agriculture and saying ‘yeah we love the name Field because his Dad like works on fields and we can like see lots of fields from our house’. I can imagine Vicky Pollard saying it.

teachermummyme · 21/04/2024 22:13

I actually think it's quite nice. It's cool in the way that makes like Bear are, but as a word it's a pleasant enough sound and feels like it works as a name even though it's not a traditional one!

MalibuBarbieDreamHouse · 21/04/2024 22:14

Love it, I like cove too.

teachermummyme · 21/04/2024 22:14

Sorry - 'names' not 'makes' 🤦‍♀️

MolkosTeenageAngst · 21/04/2024 22:15

I think it’s fine. Not to my taste but no more out there than River, Bear, Fox etc and I know children with those names.

Whitewatergrafting · 21/04/2024 22:15

No it's awful

InTheRainOnATrain · 21/04/2024 22:18

Makes me think of the dress shop that sells bland wedding attire. Not only awful but distinctly feminine.

Dearover · 21/04/2024 22:19

Can you imagine a man in his 70s called Coast?

TheBirdintheCave · 21/04/2024 22:19

Hmm... technically it could work in the same vein as River, Meadow, Oceane etc.

BUT coast is also a verb which makes it a bit stranger in my opinion.

Tigertigertigertiger · 21/04/2024 22:20

Sandy is perfect

Spudthespanner · 21/04/2024 22:22

I just hear "lazy"

Like coasting through life

bakewellbride · 21/04/2024 22:24

It's weird and not a name imo (and I live near and love the coast!)

It seems bizarre to name a kid after something you love. I completely adore my dressing table but it's not a name for a child!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 21/04/2024 22:41

It makes me think of toast (not necessarily a bad thing.)

Daisybuttercup12345 · 21/04/2024 23:02

Makes me think of a coaster to put your mug on.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 21/04/2024 23:09

Not a fan sorry.
Coral, yes. Marina, yes. Cliff, if you must. Sandy? Titan if anything.

RainIsCosy · 21/04/2024 23:14

It's up to you of course, but I think there are ocean themed names that are better than Coast. I've never gravitated to one syllable names though, so that might have something to do with it.

Aglassaday · 22/04/2024 08:12

Awww I’ve always loved this name but yet to see it in real life anywhere x
