A solid vintage name along the lines of Arthur, Wilfred, Albert etc. I think it’s got character.

TeamPolin · 21/04/2024 10:13

I love Stanley. Also love Stan. I know one (10y)

FluffMagnet · 21/04/2024 10:16

Terrible.

Longma · 21/04/2024 10:16

Have taught a couple of young boys named Stanley - shortened to Stan as they got a bit older. They were nice boys so I have no negative connotations with the name.

Emma8888 · 21/04/2024 10:19

No! Right now it would make me think you'd named your kid based on oversized coloured coffee mugs that people obsess over on tik tok!

lotsofpeoplenametheirswords · 21/04/2024 10:20

I love it! I really really don't like 'modern' names and so 'old man names' are so much superior in the Name Leagues!!

Onand · 21/04/2024 10:21

Baby Stan. God it’s terrible.

BoleynMemories13 · 21/04/2024 12:43

I like Stanley. It's traditional and doesn't feel dated now it's been revived for the past 15 years or so. Stan is a cool nickname.

There's a lot of names on Mumsnet that get love but don't in the real world - it seems this is one of them, it's terrible!

In your opinion (which is fine, we all have them). Just because you think it's terrible though, does not mean others won't like it. It wouldn't be top 100 if it wasn't loved 'in the real world' (whatever that is meant to mean). Clearly plenty of people, beyond those on mumsnet, do love it for it to be where it is in the charts.

There are many top 100 names I think are terrible too, but I accept there must be plenty of people who do love them for them to be up there in the charts.

Thank goodness we all love different names. The world would be incredibly boring if we all picked the same ones.

RotundCheese · 21/04/2024 12:49

I like it. Think it works well for all ages - baby/child Stanley is cute, adult Stanley is solid.

DragonFly98 · 21/04/2024 12:50

I used to like it 4/5 years ago but now I just think cup.

usernother · 21/04/2024 12:51

Love it. Especially the shortened 'Stan'

Hellohah · 21/04/2024 12:57

OldTinHat · 20/04/2024 23:21

I know a gorgeous dog called Stanley.

Is it my dog? 😂

JustMaggie · 21/04/2024 13:11

It's ok

MadeForThis · 21/04/2024 13:19

Cup

AspiringChatBot · 21/04/2024 13:34

Makes me think of penguins, or Dorothy Zbornak's husband from Golden Girls.

I think it's kind of edgy/out there for a girl - it was Barack Obama's mother's name but she always went by Anne.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 21/04/2024 13:35

I went straight for "Ogden"
Showing my age 😂

I think it's awful. Sorry

TeddyBeans · 21/04/2024 13:36

Would have picked it for my son 🥰 unfortunately his dad didn't like it. Lovely name imo!

Stuckmomma · 21/04/2024 13:51

I have a 4 year old Stanley. The name really suits him. All his friends call him Stan which he loves and thinks is very cool.

Jasmin1971 · 21/04/2024 14:35

Love it 😀

Holstomorrow · 21/04/2024 14:37

Oh yes! Stanley is fab.

Lulu1919 · 21/04/2024 15:03

I know two ...
Baby and a toddler

Sunnnybunny72 · 21/04/2024 15:52

Dreadful

WetBandits · 21/04/2024 15:53

Oh I like it! I know a lot of elderly chaps called Stanley through work and they are all lovely. Definitely due a revival!

IcyLilacPoet · 21/04/2024 15:54

I know a 30 year old Stanley who is really quite cool! Not one of mine, but extended family. I say go for it!
