Popular round me

mogtheexcellent · 09/04/2024 16:16

I know 2. Both babies in chi chi parts of London.

So it really depends on where you are as to how popular locally it is.

SoundTheSirens · 09/04/2024 16:17

I know of one, he's about 3 or 4 I think.

I don't think people think like that nowadays

I don’t know if he still gets asked or not. Maybe not. But as a teen he got it a lot. Sounds like it’s a more common name now.

Bucket07 · 09/04/2024 18:58

I have a Reuben, he's the only one in his school year. I've never ever been asked if he's Jewish!

Favouritefruits · 09/04/2024 19:00

My eldest sons best friend is a Reuben and the dog next door is a Reuben but thats all I know of!

WoopsLiza · 09/04/2024 19:01

I have a Reuben, and his DF and I have v first testament names. No one has ever asked if we are Jewish though (we are not) and I would regard anyone asking as quite weird and possibly a bit of a twat

Betsylee · 09/04/2024 19:02

It's my daughters dogs name, I love it now, I call him Rubes, I think its a lovely name, go with it if you like it.

TM1979 · 09/04/2024 19:03

I’m in a small village in Ireland and I know of 4 Ruebens. All around 10/11 years old.

321Backintheroom · 09/04/2024 19:06

Yep I have a Reuben Yr 10 , we have been asked if we are Jewish . There are no others in the years above him but three in year 7 .

xyz111 · 09/04/2024 19:12

One in my son's class and my friends DS name.

NationMcKinley · 09/04/2024 19:19

I have a 9 year old Reuben. I don’t know any others but like two pp I also know a dog called Reuben. He’s a lovely flat coated retriever and it really suits him.

My Reuben’s name is is often spelt wrong so be warned about that!

I have been asked if I’m Jewish more than once.

I often ask people if they are Jewish when they have Jewish names. We are a small tribe so it's nice to meet another. What's wrong with that?

Diamondglintsonsnow · 09/04/2024 19:21

I don’t think it is very common, although I think it is a lovely name it used to be my mums maiden name and made me smile when I saw it, so I just had to post. 😊

Needmoresleep · 09/04/2024 19:26

There were two DS's mixed primary school class of 20. So 20% of the boys! He is now 28.

One was Jewish. I don't think the other was, though never asked. I thought it was unusual then, but seems to have become more common.

Wasn't the eldest boy on that Yorkshire farm series called Reuben?

Zelda93 · 09/04/2024 19:46

One on my dd reception class ..

softslicedwhite · 09/04/2024 19:50

There were two in my NCT group alone but make of that what you will

Orangexhest · 09/04/2024 20:21

One in dc’s class at school, and one who is 2. A couple I've heard at baby groups. So I’d say It’s not unusual, but I don’t think too popular in an overdone way.

LolaSmiles · 09/04/2024 20:26

I know a handful. It doesn't have Oliver/Noah levels of popularity, but it's not particularly uncommon or unusual.

jackstini · 09/04/2024 20:34

One, he's 13

verabarbleen · 09/04/2024 20:36

I know two (in the south east) one is about 15 and the other is 4 . Not particularly common where I'm from, I think it's a lovely name

SellFridges · 09/04/2024 20:40

I’ve got one. There’s one other in his primary of 400 kids. We expected a lot more tbh. We come across a few in opposition football teams.

Never been asked if we are Jewish, although my American colleagues think it’s a VERY old man name.

feelingalittlehorse · 09/04/2024 20:45

Two horses. Both mid teens.

I appreciate that’s not that helpful.

DazedandConcerned · 09/04/2024 20:46

I’ve never heard it as a name. It is a sandwich back in North America (I’m Canadian).

Bluedragon86 · 09/04/2024 20:52

Stickyricepudding · 09/04/2024 12:18

Are you Jewish as it is a very popular Jewish name? Similar to Levi, Cohen, Avi etc these are all Jewish orgin names and I've only come across Jewish boys with this name.

If you are Jewish then go ahead and use it as it is a lovely name but if you're not be prepared to be asked if you are.

There are lots of 1st testiment names that are commonly used by none Jewish parents such as Sarah, Hannah, isaac, Seth ect ect.
