Middle name help

We have two sons already with one syllable middle names. Wanted to carry on the same theme for our daughter but really struggling to find one syllable middle names we like to go with Summer.

I have a couple one syllable middle names but more middle names that aren’t one syllable. Do you think it matters if we don’t carry on the theme with her?

These are the names we have so far, which one goes best?

  • Summer Belle
  • Summer Bleu
  • Summer Everly
  • Summer Aubrey
  • Summer Elodie
  • Summer Macy

I liked Summer Elodie from your original list but I think you are set on a shorter/one syllable name?
Posy, Paisley, Bloom are all nature theme which you say you don't want. Emery makes me think of an emery board. Bo, presumably pronounced Beau? It sounds like a cutsey name for a summer boyfriend.

Some more suggestions,
Summer Beth
Summer Blake
Summer Gwen
Summer Kim
Summer Lynn
Summer Nell
Summer Niamh
Summer Reece

I think most of the people who have commented have a different name taste to me haha. Thanks for your responses but I don’t like any of the suggestions given 🙈 I don’t like common names, I like more unique names that you don’t hear all the time and this is what we’ve gone for with our current children, too. I know Summer is getting a bit more common now but my husband is set on it and I think it’s pretty.

I don’t want anything like May/Meadow/Willow/Raine nature themed to go with it as I think it would be too much with the name Summer, although these are the only names out of the bunch suggested that I do like.

Other names I like are:
Posy
Paisley
Emery
Bloom
Bo

Do any of those go better as a middle name?

Non sound right with summer.
What about Everleigh, Aubrey, Harriet, or Penelope

Everly and Aubrey were on my original list so I do like these ones :)

No I’m not set on a shorter name, I originally was but there’s none that I like that go. My favourites are Summer Everly and Summer Elodie. Just had most people say they didn’t like any of the names on here so thought I’d add the others on the potentials list, but I didn’t really think any of them went as well. I just feel like nothing properly goes with the name, really struggling this time round!

Posy - common as muck around here, every other girl is called Posy in my area
Paisley = I associate it with Ian Paisley
Emery - emery board = nail file
Bloom - that is nature themed which you didn't want
Bo - isn't that just two letters thrown together

Fair enough. Not sure where abouts you are, Posy isn’t common at all around here, noones called it that I know or have heard of.

Yes all of these names I wasn’t really happy with but just thought I’d add them on seeing as most people didn’t like my original choices.

I guess people have different opinions and tastes and I just need to go with what I think!

Yes, 100%. You won't please everyone so you can and should only please yourself and your partner. It's your family.

Summer Everly/Aubrey/Elodie are lovely anyway, imo.

Summer Posy is way too twee. You’re essentially calling her a bunch of flowers.

mathanxiety · 19/03/2024 20:05

I like Summer Elodie - a very sweet combination.

Suggestions:
Summer Elise
Summer Anoushka
Summer Elfrieda
Summer Opal
Summer Guinevere
Summer Elowen
Summer Lyric
Summer Christabel

Summer Posy as opposed to Spring Bouquet, Winter Spray or Autumn Garland?

RogueFemale · 20/03/2024 03:16

First name Summer limits you in terms of the middle name - i.e. it rules out noun-y names such as Posy and Bloom (er, Bloom?) or Rose, Eve, Meadow, Raine, for example. Unless you actually want such a combo, in which case think very, very carefully about this child becoming an adult woman with the name.

I'd go for a very namey middle name with no overt noun meaning, such as Jane. I actually think James would be quite good - I love it as a girl name.

I don’t really like any of your favourites so far sorry.
How about
Summer Anne
Summer Fleur
Summer Hope
Summer Faye

Summer Anne or Ann Summers perhaps?

Catopia · 20/03/2024 07:44

Please don't use Bloom or Posy or another noun name (Rose, basically any flower name, Dawn, Rain/Rayne, Rae, Hope/Faith/Love/Rainbow, any colour, any month or day name etc). I put Belle in this category as well. Step away from thinking about what is cute for a little girl or a popstar (remembering that many of them use fake names), and think about them as an adult filling in job applications with their full name.

I would really seriously consider leaning towards a "boring and serious" middle name in case they end up in or at least interviewing for "boring and serious" jobs and want to default to their middle name. Elodie or Aubrey would be fine for this.

Something like Maeve would also work if it works with your surname, but also is reasonably trendy at the moment.

I personally think e or y sounds better with Summer - not another er/a sound - so something like Kate, Louise, Mary also fine but possibly too boring/safe for your name preferences.

I would stay away from Anne/Ann because of Ann Summers.
