Boy/Girl twins - Classic and Simple

After a very long time trying and two rounds of IVF our twins are due next month, boy and a girl. We thought after so long waiting the names would come naturally but it's not the case. We like short, simple, classic and timeless names. Our list so far is

Boy

Girls

• Katie
• Anna

• Sophie

My favourite is either Alice and James or Katie and James. DH loves Anna and Alex or Emma and Adam

Middle names will be Matthew and Elizabeth, surname is Palmer.

We can't use or don't like

Which combination do you like best and why ideas we've missed?

Anna and Jamie (James on the bc)

Alex and sophie are my favs.

Other names could be Annie? Love Anna though. Alexandra? Oscar, Thomas/Tommy?

Honestly they are all lovely names. My eldest has one of them. If we’d have had another boy, he would have been James.

The only thing I’d say as a personal personal preference would be to eliminate Henry and Sophie.

Reason I say this is that I have one of the most popular names of my generation and there are loads of us everywhere, always have been right from school, and it’s annoying. So I deliberately chose names that weren’t in the top 20, which Henry is and also Sophia, so v similar.

I like Anna and James

I love Sophie and Anna, both with James. Have you considered Madeline and Benjamin as names? Or Thomas?

I think any of the combos are fine, not particularly designed to 'go' together. Personally wouldn't go for same starting letter, though my DC go to school with twins Matteo and Mia, which I like for some reason. My b/g twins have 'their own' names (as opposed to a 'pair') and are very much their own people. I know a Stanley and Elsie which is a bit of a pair too.

My twins were going to be James and Tamsin (which I think is a pair) but I went with completely different names in the end nectar I realised I liked the sound together but didn't love either name individually. James is a bit ubiquitous. I haven't come across an Alex for a long time in the younger age group.

For boys, I love Adam - it’s classic but a bit less common than the others. It was on our list if we had a boy but probably wouldn’t have used it as my boss is called Adam!

For girls I love Alice and Anna, and would happily use either if DP didn’t get a say!

That would leave you with two A names, though, which might be a bit samey for twins, though the names are quite different in sound, especially Alice and Adam.

I have twin girls with two of your girls names, one is Sophie and there are four in her class, and randomly three have the same starting letter for a surname so in form they are Sophie 1, 2 and 3 Sophie x. I don't know if it is still as popular but it annoys my daughter!

I think Emma and James are underused.

I like Emma and Adam.

A little watery and 90s but my favourite is James. Sophie is OK.

From your list, I'd choose Anna and James. I also like Alex and Adam but wouldn't do two 'A' names

Have you considered Luke as a short, traditional boys name?

Anna and Luke would be fab.

Before I even opened this post I thought of James and Anna so was pleased to see them both on the list!
Alice and Henry is also nice.

I find Sophie overused and a bit dull. Same with James.

Love Katie, Anna and Emma. Adam and Alex

I really love all of your choices except for Adam, Katie & Sophie - they don’t fit in the same way as they’re not as timeless and just feel a bit ‘nothingey’ + overused

Emma and Adam is a bit 1980's for me and I think the sounds are too similar in the names whichever way round you say them. likewise Adam and Anna and I wouldn't put Alex and Alice together either!
