What do you think about the name Aubrey for a girl?

Isn't there a Bread song about a girl named Aubrey?

ChocolateCinderToffee · 16/02/2024 21:19

I wouldn't use it for a girl. Audrey is lovely for girls though.

TempleOfBloom · 16/02/2024 21:31

Boys name and not an appealing one, to me.

Kemblefordsnice · 16/02/2024 21:33

Lovely name.

BinkyBeaufort · 16/02/2024 23:41

It was my great grandfather's name, so personally I'd never get past that.

@Phillipa12 yeah I've been hearing about female Elliotts and Jamies - totally new to me!

Jamie has been a unisex name for years. Sometimes spelt differently but not always. Elliott not so much!!!

ConfusedSheila · 16/02/2024 23:48

I would 100% assume they were male until I met them

Not to me. I would assume Jamie was male until I met them and if it was a woman I would still consider them to have a boy's name and feel a bit sorry for them. Jaime is a Spanish male name, spelling it like that doesn't make it a girl's name either.

Are you sure it wasn't Audrey?.

Nope. Definitely Aubrey although spelt without the e, Aubry

my friend’s mum is called Audrey…I find that much more old lady-ish

Mummyto2littleones · 17/02/2024 09:18

I have a 2 year old daughter called Aubrey and only ever once has someone confused it with Audrey. Also nobody has commented it on being a man’s name. I know of one other little girl with the same name who is 3 years old.

WillYouPutYourCoatOn · 17/02/2024 09:26

It's a boy's name.

Your daughter will have a life of "no, not Audrey, Aubrey"

Igneococcus · 17/02/2024 09:31

I'd wonder if her parents were a fan of Patrick O'Brian's Master&Commander series.
