I have a daughter with a Welsh name- I'm Welsh and live in England. we don't know what we're having but if it's a girl we'd like another Welsh name. We both really like Manon but something is niggling me, maybe it's the Man. I do think it's a beautiful name though. Thoughts of Manon or any other suggestions? Thanks!

Getting lots of positives replies!.
I am going to be the black sheep lol
I work with a Manon and I really dislike the name. First time I heard it and I do not like the sound of it.

LydiaTomos · 23/01/2024 18:10

It's a Welsh name, but as other posters have pointed out it's also a French name..

MeMySonAnd1 · 23/01/2024 18:13

Really like the name. I think I have a new girls name favourite even when I am done having children! 🙂

KnickerlessParsons · 23/01/2024 18:18

I love Manon!

It has football connotations, as in 'man on' (when a player is under pressure from an opposing player) and that would put me off, I think.

I take it your DH isn't a footie fan?

He's a massive football fan but hasn't made this connection! My BIL has though so I'm hoping he dosent tell him. My husband is part French so it actually works really well for both of us!

Eira was on my list it's so pretty but this is a spring baby 🐑

Ah I'm glad it's getting positive feedback! Really don't like Rhiannon I know a few unpleasant ones

I just outed myself as a Rhiannon elsewhere I'm sorry about the unpleasant ones you've met. I've met a couple, too, but I like to think I'm alright Grin

Manon's a beautiful name, though. I love it. I also love the fact that it travels (France and Wales). I'd go for it!

PudgeControlsTheWeather · 23/01/2024 18:28

There was a sad face after elsewhere!

whiteboardking · 23/01/2024 18:30

I know a lovely one

Motherofpearlxoxo · 23/01/2024 18:37

I think it’s a lovely but I will just flag this what we say at work when slagging someone off and they start to come towards us. e.g. our boss.

someone mutters ‘Man On’ and we all start having some random animated conversation about something random, knowing that she is heading towards us.

This is in Barnsley, South Yorkshire for context.

theduchessofspork · 23/01/2024 18:50

I really like it

I also like Ffion and Olwen

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/01/2024 18:51

I really like Manon, ond Mared a Mabli hefyd 😉

That sounds quite grim. Hopefully the OP’s daughter won’t encounter an environment like that. I haven’t.

MissBattleaxe · 23/01/2024 18:51

It's beautiful. Use it.

YouveGotAFastCar · 23/01/2024 18:52

I love Manon, and don’t see “Man” at all (without looking for it).

It’s gorgeous and sounds like it’ll go beautifully with your other names.

DaNiYmaOHyd · 23/01/2024 19:30

It's nice. I know quite a few of them. Might avoid it if you have a surname like Hill or Moore or something.

As others said if it was good enough for the wonderful Helen McCrory's daughter...

WishesPromises · 23/01/2024 19:34

I love Manon and I am not at all familiar with the opera.

idontlikealdi · 23/01/2024 20:36

I know a young Manon, he's Egyptian. Love the name though.

sunglassesonthetable · 23/01/2024 20:41

I know a lovely Manon. So many people comment on her name.

It's beautiful. And quite unusual.

CaffiSaliMali · 23/01/2024 22:22

I know someone who has a Manon and a Ffion.

I like Manon, it works in both Welsh and French.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 23/01/2024 23:15

To me it's ugly. Just see Man.

missedabigbit · 23/01/2024 23:18

PeterRabbitt · 23/01/2024 17:45

There's a book series with a character called Manon. She's fierce, a leader and I have a hugeeeeee love for the name now.

My baby days are over but I'd 100% use it!

Manon Bradshaw by Susie Steiner? I loved those books and saw that the author passed away quite recently, which is so sad. She was a brilliant writer.

saraclara · 23/01/2024 23:18

I love (French*) Manon, but it needs pronouncing with the accent to be properly pretty.

*I don't know how it sounds in Welsh

urbanbuddha · 23/01/2024 23:19

Manon is lovely.

purpleme12 · 23/01/2024 23:21

I quite like it.

It made me think of The Craft. Which is not a bad thing I love that film!
