Ok, Jared is lovely but out so Isaac or Ethan? (and I so hope I've spelt the names right this time lol!)

Following on from the badly spelt name saga of Isaac or JaredI think DH and I have decided not to go with Jared....but.....I'm not 100% about Isaac so any thoughts on Isaac or Ethan?

Once again all opinions are very welcome

Thanks in advance

Don't use Isaac if your surname is Hunt.

Moomin · 19/03/2008 10:14

lol SoupD!! Dh works with a surgeon called Mr Hunt who everyone hates so his nickname (behind his back of course) is Isaac

Having said that... I defo prefer Isaac - it's more, er, classic I spose. I do like the sound of Ethan, but it also has more connotations than Isaac now

One of my brother's work mates had the nickname Isaac because his surname was Hunt. That was the RAF though and considered affectionate

I like Isaac, Ethan and Jared BTW.

Isaac - but I like Zac as well and it is good to have a name you can shorten. You have to like both versions though.

Ethan is OK.

I wanted Isaac but my friend had just had a Zachary - we were going to call him Ike for short. We changed our minds last minute and went for something else though...

Sara Cox has called her son Isaac - yes, that's right, Isaac Cox

What's with all the old Testamnet names???
A big nonon unless you are Jewish I reckon.

Thank you all for your input

Not many like Ethan then? Moomin I did wonder if people thought Ethan had 'connotations' iykwim

I do like Zac as a shortening of Isaac and fortunatley our surname is not Hunt

Moondog it's interesting you should say that about old testement names...when DH first suggested Isaac I did wonder if people would assume we were Jewish although I have to say you have been the first to mention it, something to think about there I think.....

DP hoping for a boy to be called Isaac. Lovely name but will have to talk him out of it as he can't seem to see that surname almost rhymes with it! Will wait till after the birth when I will definitely get my own way. Also may be a girl. Always think of Ethan as being a bit bratpacky hollywood actor-ish name, so not really fussed. I really like Jared though.

Jared reminds me of Toady from Neighbours (his real name is Jared). That rather puts me off.

I liked Isaac until the Sara Cox debacle. Now I just think of it as "I suck..".

Ethan is alright.

Reuben is another old testament name that I like.

A friend of mine has an Isaac - he is totally adorable - the smiliest little boy ever!

I do quite like Ethan.

Jared am not so sure of.

bethoo - Troy is the male character in High School Musical - my money is on there being loads of Troys soon. I did once know a totally gorgeous Troy. Gay unfortunately.

Ethan is THE most common name for boys round my way at the mo!

Dunno if that's the same near you or if that would bother you.

I think Isaac is much nicer, it's a lovely name!

That annoyed me actually as after I named my son Ethan I suddenly started hearing it everywhere. I wanted a name that wasn't so well used but managed to pick one that was becoming one. Lots of younger babies here with that name too now

Out of the three I prefer Isaac.

My ds is called Solomon, another old testament name that is not very common,we always get nice comments about it. We shorten it to Sol/Solly.
