AITA - unusual Baby name

Hi all-

So recently a friend of mine has announced their baby's arrival and the name.

Is there any way to approach them and explain that their weird baby name is... well too weird.

I googled the name at it's linked to a random film character in a weird movie and also very closely similar to a company they are about to start...

AITA for wanting to explain my feelings on the name before they register it?

What's it to do with you ? I do feel sorry for kids that are named stupid things but ultimately it's not your kid not your choice.

Octocat · 11/01/2024 05:45

I thought you meant the name was Aita. Unless it's the name of a product, porn actor or famous criminal I think it's best to let them get on with it.

plumberdrain · 11/01/2024 06:10

Unbelievable
You, that is.
And not in a good way.

ElleLeopine · 11/01/2024 06:13

Well, it depends on the name! What is it?

Fourecks · 11/01/2024 06:13

I'm sure if you shared the name, most people would agree that it's weird and they shouldn't use it, but it's up to them. I wouldn't say anything.

WinchyGirl · 11/01/2024 06:16

What does AITA stand for?

What does AITA stand for?

I googled it.

Am I the asshole?

Yes op, you are.

plumberdrain · 11/01/2024 07:11

i have to say Op
Your username makes me 🤢

planetarynoodle · 11/01/2024 07:16

AITA is for Reddit - have you asked this there too?

Yes yabu it's none of your business

JustMaggie · 11/01/2024 07:20

I don't think it's any of your business.

Stubbedtoes · 11/01/2024 07:22

Blimey, the arrogance!!

northstars · 11/01/2024 07:24

Why do you think she would care about “your feelings on the name”? The baby is already here and has been named, your feelings on it are irrelevant

Doppelgangers · 11/01/2024 07:26

Why would you say anything, why do you think your views are important in the decision of what they name their child?

I'm pretty sure they already googled their child's name and it doesn't matter a bit if you don't approve of it.

PickledScrump · 11/01/2024 08:03

The fact that you are asking shows you already know that you would be the massive asshole for mentioning anything. I’ve had 2 friends name their baby after a character from a film which would be considered weird. Now they absolutely suit their names and couldn’t be anything else.

If you don’t like a name smile and nod like everyone else, then wind your neck in and get on with your day.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 11/01/2024 08:51

Don’t say anything - theyve announced the name so it’s too late.

Wheresthefibre · 11/01/2024 08:55

A company who is about to start?

The parents? Why is that an issue.

Surely making them after a character that is not well known, isn’t an issue either?

Mrgrinch · 11/01/2024 08:57

How is Aita pronounced?

In any event, no you absolutely should not be so rude and nasty.

SnowWhitesApple · 11/01/2024 08:57

You want to explain your feelings to people about their baby name?

It's not your baby. Have your own baby.

It's not pronounced any way at all from my understanding just like we don't pronounce AIBU you see the letters and read it as Am I Being Unreasonable. AITA is an acronym for Am I the Arsehole.

Why do you think your feelings about the name matter?

Given you've now insulted their unusual baby name on a large parenting site there is a fair chance it will get back to them anyway.

Cosycover · 11/01/2024 09:15

This thread is completely pointless as you won't say the name.

but that’s irrelevant

Without knowing the name it's impossible to say.

Aita would however be a very bad name.
