Ella!

BTW neither name features in my primary school currently or for the last 5 years.

LilyLemonade · 18/12/2023 20:21

Emma. Classic, pretty, easy to spell, international, suits anyone in any walk of life.

43ontherocksporfavor · 18/12/2023 20:21

Plus my favourite perfume is Diorella! 😉

43ontherocksporfavor · 18/12/2023 20:21

@LilyLemonade same can be said for Ella.

theduchessofspork · 18/12/2023 20:23

Emma - a classic not overused right now

Ella is pretty but less distinguished and also she will be one of 60 million Ella/Elle/Ellies in her class.

@LilyLemonade same can be said for Ella.

It’s not so much of a classic - it doesn’t have the same history - plus massively overused right now.

@LilyLemonade same can be said for Ella.

It's true, I thought the same just after I posted :)
But I still prefer Emma!

Similar names: Esme, Elsa, Enya, Eva, Eve.

LikeItOrLumpIts · 18/12/2023 20:33

Ella is especially dull if paired with Rose/Grace/May.

43ontherocksporfavor · 18/12/2023 20:34

Can’t bear that @LikeItOrLumpIts with any name such as Lily too.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/12/2023 20:37

Emma.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 18/12/2023 20:44

Emma

BoleynMemories13 · 18/12/2023 20:46

Ella is ok but I prefer Emma as a timeless classic.

Tastes change over time. If you prefer Emma now, go for Emma. Don't feel you have to use Ella just because you considered it last time and always imagined you'd use it one day. It's ok to change your mind. When I was expecting my second we had 4 options. Two were on our list first time around too and two were new additions. We ended up going for one of the new additions to the list, as we found that we'd grown to prefer it to the other two. Sometimes 'back up names' lose their appeal over the years. There was a reason you didn't pick them first time around and sometimes they can end up feeling 'second best'. Sometimes it's nice to start afresh and consider new names second time round.

Emily.

Sorry, I know it's not what you are asking!

Both Emma and Ella are lovely. Ella is prettier IMHO but will possibly date more because it's so popular right now (like the Ellie craze in the late 90s-early 2000s). Emma is classic but perhaps a little boring.

We went with Emily over Emma because it sounded better with our surname.

LikeTheMorningDew · 18/12/2023 20:49

Both are too popular where I live.

But I prefer Emma. It's my favourite Jane Austen book.

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2023 20:55

Emma - classic, timeless and strong

Ella - faddy and insubstantial

bettynutkins · 18/12/2023 20:56

Emma

Daffyyellow · 18/12/2023 20:58

Between those 2 - Emma, less popular and less likely to date.

I was also going to say Emily, which I much prefer.

Spyrothedragonn · 18/12/2023 21:59

Emma!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 18/12/2023 22:00

Emma It's timeless

Seamist22 · 18/12/2023 22:37

Emma is gorgeous - I would call my fictitious third dd Emma!

Ella was also on my shortlist for my dd’s names, I really love this name too. Not quite such a classic as Emma but that might not be the most important thing to you - go with the one you love most.

Scottyme · 19/12/2023 06:22

Definitely Emma she won't drown in the current sea of isabella/Bellas. Or how about Gemma/Jemma or Jenna

Coffeeandcakemum · 19/12/2023 07:06

Emma

ChainBastard · 19/12/2023 07:08

Emma is a million times nicer.
