What do people think about Cole as a boys name?

Hi everyone, I'm only 20 weeks pregnant but I found out we're having a boy at 12 weeks.
I really like the name Cole but my partner isn't too keen.

We live in Ireland and his family are all from here but I'm from north east, England so I need something we can't both pronounce.

Our daughter is called Erin with her middle name Rose.

What's people's thoughts on Cole as a name?

Awful, sorry.

Crishell · 14/12/2023 21:21

Horrible.

GreatGateauxsby · 14/12/2023 21:21

American.

probably has a brother called chad?

Notsurehwhattdo · 14/12/2023 21:24

I know a Cole and he's a lovely little boy. Wasn't keen at first as it made me think of a lump of coal, but it suits him and it's way better than lots of more popular names out there that make me cringe!

Mammma91 · 14/12/2023 21:24

Gorgeous name. I love it! Also pregnant with a boy, but name is set in stone. If not Cole would be on my list!

Comedycook · 14/12/2023 21:25

I like it a lot

QueSyrahSyrah · 14/12/2023 21:25

I've liked it for years since I read a book with a main character called Cole.

IcedupTulip · 14/12/2023 21:29

Not my usual name but reminds me of a character in charmed and he was gorgeous…… so I think I like it 😁

Stellium · 14/12/2023 21:29

I don't see it as American. It makes me think of the Old King Cole nursery rhyme, and his fiddlers three!

daisypond · 14/12/2023 21:30

I quite like it. It’s a short form of Nicholas, I think.

BlackJumpsuit · 14/12/2023 21:31

I like it!

ThomasinaLivesHere · 14/12/2023 21:31

I quite like it. It does make me think of an American name and seemed to be more popular a few decades ago but i don’t think that’s important

ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 14/12/2023 21:32

Reminds me of Cole Porter, which is a good association.

I don't love the name but don't think it's awful either.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 14/12/2023 21:35

Sunset Beach aka American.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 14/12/2023 21:36

I like but I'm a Charmed fan.

AllIsWellish · 14/12/2023 21:37

I like it but if your partner doesn't it's a no go really

LightSpeeds · 14/12/2023 21:40

I like it

PaulaPocket · 14/12/2023 21:41

Er.... 👀

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 14/12/2023 21:42

I like it, but only because I went to school with a lovely Cole - his was short for Coleridge - so it has nice associations. If he'd been a dick I probably wouldn't like it!

braticus · 14/12/2023 21:42

I like it.

Reesescheeses · 14/12/2023 21:42

It’s irrelevant what we think - your partner doesn’t like it. Find a name you both like

AyrshireTryer · 14/12/2023 21:45

It's a lovely name OP.

Mushroom2023 · 14/12/2023 21:47

If your partner isn't keen surely it's a no-go? Shouldn't you chose a name you both love. Plenty of names work well for both English and Irish.

If you want an English name that Irish will be familiar with (to counteract the irish-ness of Erin), what about Christopher? Recognised the world over, even if the Gaelic version would be slightly different.

wite · 14/12/2023 21:48

Not one for me.

hangingonfordearlife1 · 14/12/2023 21:51

reminds me too much of cheryl cole hole
