Julien for a girl?

Would it work as a girls name? I'm not so keen on the Julienne spelling. It would be her middle name...

All i can think of is carrots.

At the moment i love the name sorrel

CallieQ · 04/12/2023 00:43

No it's a boys' name!

Scruffington · 04/12/2023 00:43

I think anything goes really when it's the middle name. Julian of Norwich was a woman so it's not entirely wacky.

CallieQ · 04/12/2023 00:44

Try Julie Julia Juliet Juliette

WestRiding · 04/12/2023 00:46

Most, but not all, Juliens or Julians are male.

If you don’t like Julienne I guess you don’t like Julie-Ann either?

Ittastesvile · 04/12/2023 08:30

I wouldn't, and there are loads of female equivalents as noted by pps, but if it's a middle name no one else will really care.

ThankYoufortheDay · 04/12/2023 09:06

I’ve never heard of Julien or Julienne only Julian the boy’s name. Not keen sorry.

Confusedddddddd · 04/12/2023 09:06

Julienne is the female version of Julien.

Orangeteatime · 04/12/2023 10:16

Anything is fine for the middle name. Is the first name usually a girl's name?

Grimmz · 04/12/2023 10:28

It's totally fine for a middle name. Lots of girls/women have masculine middle names, or ones that are traditional surnames. Anyway, middle names are rarely used so it's pretty inconsequential.

Clydagh · 04/12/2023 10:33

I prefer Julian, as in Julian of Norwich. Julian was apparently used for girls in medieval times, though it’s also thought she may have been known by the name of the church where her enclosure was.

EarthyMangold · 04/12/2023 10:37

I like Julien/Julian much better as a girls' name. Personally I think it is one of many current "boys" names which works much better for girls.

WildCherryBlossom · 04/12/2023 10:42

I met a little Julianna recently. Would that work for you?

Or the Italian spelling Giuliana?

GrandHighPoohbah · 04/12/2023 10:43

It's fine for a middle name as she won't be constantly correcting people or explaining it like she would if it were her first name. I know several people with surnames as middle names. It's hardly ever used so go for it.

user1492757084 · 04/12/2023 10:45

Juleen, Julien and Julienne, Juliette, Julia, Julie are all girls' names.
Do you like Juleen or Julia? I prefer them.

therealcookiemonster · 04/12/2023 10:54

tbh given the complete monstrosities ppl come up with these days, its completely fine.

DuchessOfSausage · 04/12/2023 10:56

Julian isn't even nice as a boy's name. Julien will be assumed to be a boy with French or Belgian heritage.

ilovepixie · 04/12/2023 13:04

Famous five.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 04/12/2023 13:15

I know it because of julien baker American singer.

MaloneMeadow · 04/12/2023 15:20

It’s a boys name. How about Julianna or Juliette? All I can think about is King Julien from the movie Madagascar 🙈

CrushingOnRubies · 04/12/2023 15:56

Isn't sister Julienne Jenny Aguetter in call the midwife?

Julien looks wrong for a girl somehow

SuitYouSir · 04/12/2023 16:00

Julien McDonald is a Welsh male fashion designer.

I love the Italian, Giuliana, as mentioned by a pp. I went to school with one who was a lovely person.

Karatema · 04/12/2023 16:03

I know quite a few females whose names are the male spelling of their unisex name! It really doesn't matter. Have what you want, your child won't get fed up correcting because it's a middle name!

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 04/12/2023 16:18

For a middle name, sure. I don't think it matters. Although personally I dp prefer the feminised Julienne spelling.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 04/12/2023 16:52

I would choose another middle name rather than give her a male one.
