Julien for a girl?

Would it work as a girls name? I'm not so keen on the Julienne spelling. It would be her middle name...

I wouldn't. When there are thousands of girls names out there, why give her a boy's name ?

Lifeinlists · 04/12/2023 17:36

Put a T on the end instead of N. Juliet is a nice name. Julien is a boy. Not as odd for a middle name but she won't thank you for a boy's name.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 04/12/2023 18:03

Boys name.
Surely you can think of a better one.

user701 · 04/12/2023 18:05

Gillian? I suspect most people will think it’s Gillian anyway if you call her Julien.

Im assuming you’re a gossip girl fan?

Quinque · 04/12/2023 18:12

I've been researching family history in the 16th and 17th century, I've come across a number of women named Julian/Julien, but no men with that name. Likewise Christian, which we tend to use as a man's name, nowadays, was exclusively a woman's name, the male form was Christopher.
If you use Julien, you can tell people she's named after a medieval ancestor!

theduchessofspork · 04/12/2023 18:21

As a middle name I don’t think it matters much - but I can’t see any reason not to use Julienne.

Julien is the French masculine form, but it is used in England sometimes eg Julien Temple

Gettingbysomehow · 04/12/2023 18:23

There are so many great girls names and even unisex names so why am I seeing so many of these daft posts. Please don't call your girl Julien. She will hate it and never use it and everyone will be confused her whole life....is this a girl or a boy...what is it ffs.

Fairylightfurore · 04/12/2023 18:35

No. If you don't like the feminine version pick another name

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 06/12/2023 23:47

I actually knew a girl called this once (about my age, so in her 50s now). It was officially spelt Julien but pronounced just like Julienne, so she took to writing it as Julienne just so people would say it right. I wouldn't voluntarily give a child that problem. I do quite like Julienne as a name, but I like Julia better.

tortoiseshellcats · 06/12/2023 23:54

I think it's totally fine for a middle name

TheSandgroper · 07/12/2023 05:53

You coukd rock the 60’s with Julieanne.

DuchessOfSausage · 07/12/2023 10:43

Most Julies are Julie Anne

Maplesugarpie · 07/12/2023 14:45

Totally fine for a middle name imo.

PonderingGirlsNames · 07/12/2023 20:33

@user701 what's gossip girl?

Or Jolene.
Julien is definitely the French male equivalent of Julienne, which is a pretty name.

Kokeshi123 · 12/12/2023 06:03

No. People will think she is a boy, or will associated it with cutting up vegetables.

Juliet is nicer.

ginteio · 14/12/2023 08:00

I am not a fan of Julien for a girl. Try Julia or Juliette?

sgdubose · 28/12/2023 01:09

My daughter was born in 2017. We were torn between Julien and Stella. We noticed Stella was quickly trending upward & I wanted her to have somewhat of a unique name. So we ended up naming her Julien Estel. And I'm sure that I'm biased, but it's one of the most beautiful names I've heard. I think it's both feminine & strong. I love it!!

I think that is a beautiful name.

OP, if you want to use Julien as a middle name for your daughter then use it. MN is the very last place I would ask for advice regarding naming a child!!

CanaryCanary · 28/12/2023 06:26

Technically it is a unisex name, just very rarely used for girls. One of my sisters had it as a middle name but at some point in her teens just started writing it as Juliet and the authorities must have assumed julien had been a typo and updated her docs. Her passport now has Juliet in even though she’s never officially changed it.
