Suggestions please for a lovely middle name to go with Alba that flows 😍
Our surname is pretty flexi and only one syllable (so isn't a mouthful!)

Sugarfree23 · 13/11/2023 07:44

Has to be Erin, Scotland Ireland, just be careful it doesn't sound like a Rugby match.

Sugarfree23 · 13/11/2023 07:47

Op think carefully about using it, it's the name for lots of things, Alba Party, BBC Alba, various companies.

HerMammy · 13/11/2023 07:48

Alba: Scotland, at least you'll have no problem getting things with her name on it, car stickers especially

Hahaha 😆
Just think who knows what could happen in her life time she could end up with it on the front of her passport too.

SayingwhatIreallythink · 13/11/2023 07:55

I like it, so don’t take this as a criticism, but be prepared for the Alba political party to become much more mainstream in the next few years.

Alba means white in Latin

Iwasdrunkandamenace · 13/11/2023 07:59

You’re naming your child after Alex Salmonds party?
the sex pest?

are you in Scotland? Do you plan to visit Scotland?

Its a bold choice.

In the Gaelic speaking parts it’s Al-pa?

Alba means white in Latin

Very good. However it means Scotland in Gaelic. Hence goes nicely with Erin

Twazique · 13/11/2023 08:31

I think it has the potential to be a controversial name so I would probably avoid it for that reason.

Princessfluffy · 13/11/2023 09:03

Alba Ray

Namehelp4me · 13/11/2023 10:12

I wanted opinions on middle name only ... no we are not in Scotland or England.
Partner has Scottish family and they all seem to like it.

No negative links or business names in the country we are in - safe there!

@Namehelp4me honestly I'd avoid it. People may like it because they are nationalists or they may be being polite.
But I agree it could become a very controversial name esp in Scotland.

It pops up all the time on the name boards however Erin and Cymru never seem to pop up.

Winwit · 13/11/2023 10:22

Alba Ray?

Namehelp4me · 13/11/2023 12:00

@Sugarfree23 understand but we are not changing the name or asking opinions on it , just middle names :)

Erin or Cymru both suitable options sticking in the same theme.

KirstenBlest · 13/11/2023 12:17

@Sugarfree23 , Erin is very popular on the name boards. Alba is 'dawn' in Spanish.
The Welsh for Dawn is Gwawr and it's sometimes used as a middle name

Ywlala92 · 13/11/2023 14:30

@Namehelp4me i think Alba is a beautiful name. Have you taken a liking to any of the middle name options? Lots of people suggested Nia but I'm not a fan of both names ending in the "a" sound, makes it harder to pronounce

You miss my point Alba is the gealic word for Scotland. Cymru is the Welsh word for Wales and Erin is derived from Errinn Gealic for Ireland.

I'll assume in a English speaking forum they have more links to the UK than Spain or Italy

KirstenBlest · 13/11/2023 14:42

@Sugarfree23 , I didn't miss your point.
Erin seems to crop up on many threads, and is a girl's name. Cymru AFAIK is not a girl's name. Cambria could be used as a unique name, I suppose.

If you had Alba Erin Cymru you might as well put Albion in there as well.

@Ywlala92 , I think Nia was a joke suggestion, like Kirkee. hint: Albania

Ywlala92 · 13/11/2023 14:51

@KirstenBlest 🤣🤣🤣 that went way over my head

KirstenBlest · 13/11/2023 15:24

Have a look at the Shay thread, @Ywlala92 Grin
