Just curious to what people think about my taste in names. Please be brutally honest as I always get mixed opinions on them.

Brooks Joseph (boy) - 10
Gracie Jayne (girl) - 8
Atticus James (boy) - 6
Elky Jade (girl) - 3
Remi June (girl) - 6 months

Poor Elky.

StrawberrySkies · 06/11/2023 12:37

Brooks - It's okay
Gracie - Sweet
Atticus, Elky and Remi are very trendy. The matching J middle names are sweet but a bit tacky if you ask me.

Poor Elky.

Jesus

BeaLola · 06/11/2023 12:41

I like Atticus James a lot. If it were Grace rather than Gracie that would appeal to me . At the end of the day though my opinion does not matter

ohbloodyhel · 06/11/2023 12:41

Not keen on elky at all

LylaLee · 06/11/2023 12:44

Gracie: it's like you don't realise this is someone who will be a serious adult. You've made her into a doll. Headteacher 'Gracie'. Chief engineer 'Gracie'.

Elky, like Moosy or Liony or Badgery. Sounds made up and ridiculous.

Atticus is a try-hard name. And sounds like you haven't read a book since you had to do To Kill A Mockingbird in school.

Mychai · 06/11/2023 12:45

Love Brooks! Never heard of it before!

LylaLee · 06/11/2023 12:48

Brooks sounds like a butler or a prisoner being called.

At least they all have normal middle names they can use.

I would think the names sound very chavvy. I would think it's a bit shit to have so many kids and wonder how you can afford for them to all have hobbies and sports, and how 5 kids get individual time with their parents.

SaturdayGiraffe · 06/11/2023 12:52

Brooks is great, there’s an artist I like called that.
Elky sounds like alky or okie, a sort of sound rather than a name.
The others don’t stand out for me. Plenty of them around.

soscarlet · 06/11/2023 12:52

Elky and Brooks?! 😐

pinkyredrose · 06/11/2023 12:53

I like that you've got kids called Elky and Brooks!

LambMomo · 06/11/2023 12:54

I mean they’re not to my taste but does it matter?

I knew an Elkie, she was lovely. Prefer that spelling though.

Gracie is just too twee and cutesy for my liking.

VeridicalVagabond · 06/11/2023 12:54

Hmm, like some, don't like others. Not my general cup of tea though.

Gracie is nice, prefer Grace but I suppose she can go by that if she likes.

Atticus is alright, quite popular at the moment but fine.

Remi is nice but I prefer Rémy... And it's a boy's name, either spelling.

Elky is awful, just sounds like Elk. As in the large, lumbering deer.

Brooks is a surname and my immediate association is the old con who hung himself in Shawshank.

The middle names are all nice but super naff to have them all starting with the same letter.

LylaLee · 06/11/2023 12:56

Remi is one of those try-hard 'give a girl a boy's name' names.

Brooks Joseph (boy) - 10
Gracie Jayne (girl) - 8
Atticus James (boy) - 6
Elky Jade (girl) - 3
Remi June (girl) - 6 months

Brooks Joseph (boy) - Awful
Gracie Jayne (girl) - Average
Atticus James (boy) - Love
Elky Jade (girl) - Awful
Remi June (girl) - Like

TulipOH · 06/11/2023 12:58

Elky?

As in like an elk?

Aylestone · 06/11/2023 12:58

Why would you name your little girl after an ugly moose like animal 😩

Workawayxx · 06/11/2023 13:02

I wouldn’t have chosen them all (atticus and Gracie are my favourites) but find as I get older I really like hearing more unusual names for DC. I think the days of being bullied for not being called one of a limited range of “normal” names are over (and thank god for that). So I’d just be really proud of the names you’ve chosen and love and don’t worry about what others think.

rainbowstardrops · 06/11/2023 13:15

The middle names are perfectly fine.

Gracie is fine.

Not keen on Brooks or Atticus.

I've only ever come across a male Remi but I suppose it's ok. People of my generation might attach it to an awful slur on people years back who weren't too bright, or they didn't like. Younger people probably wouldn't make that connection though.

Elky??? Sounds like either Alky or an Elk.

What do you want from this thread @CoffeeMamaBear?

Sconehenge · 06/11/2023 13:37

Wow people are being awful! These are actually children who are alive! The middle names matching is sweet and 0% of people in their lives as individuals will know they all start with J so it really doesn’t matter for their day to day.

I think Elky is a fun and pretty name! And I can imagine a girl pulling it off really well. All names have started somewhere, even names like Cedric were made up only a few generations ago.

MaloneMeadow · 06/11/2023 13:56

None are to my taste but they’re your kids so it doesn’t matter. All seem overly trendy and very ‘try hard’

FayCarew · 06/11/2023 13:58

Presumably this is a joke thread.

UsingChangeofName · 06/11/2023 15:04

Well, I like Joseph and James.

Jayne is okay.

Jade - not really my taste but just about okay.

The rest, awful.

momtoboys · 06/11/2023 15:08

I find this odd that you are asking people to give you an opinion of names you have already named your children. What is the point?

momtoboys · 06/11/2023 15:10

@LylaLee "Elky, like Moosy or Liony or Badgery. Sounds made up and ridiculous." This one made me laugh out loud.
