Just curious to what people think about my taste in names. Please be brutally honest as I always get mixed opinions on them.

Brooks Joseph (boy) - 10
Gracie Jayne (girl) - 8
Atticus James (boy) - 6
Elky Jade (girl) - 3
Remi June (girl) - 6 months

"Elky"? As in "like an elk"?

Fiftyvines · 06/11/2023 15:15

You asked...
-Brooks - much prefer Brook, I would think the S is an typo
-Gracie - prefer Grace. Gracie sounds juvenile
-Atticus - love
-Elky - no real opinion, not a name I'm familiar with
-Remi - boys name, Remy.

SallyWD · 06/11/2023 15:47

Well I feel mean but you are asking! I don't like any of them. Gracie is OK but I much prefer Grace because it's not cutesy like Gracie is.
Atticus is OK but always feels a bit pretentious to me. The others I just dislike.

CurlewKate · 06/11/2023 16:14

Isn't Elkie Brooks spelled Elkie?

CurlewKate · 06/11/2023 16:17

Elkie-short for Elaine!

Crunchymum · 06/11/2023 17:05

On a forum where people name change to protect their privacy about things that are utterly unidentifiable, I always find it highly suspicious when someone posts the first and second names of all their uniquely named children!

Elky and Brooks?! 😐

Pearl's a singer

Foxy1616 · 06/11/2023 17:09

If these were names for your as-yet-unborn child, this thread would be potentially useful but do you really want opinions on the names you gave your children several years ago? You obviously liked them & your children live with them …

Maireas · 06/11/2023 17:12

Anyway, you've got your hands full with 5 young children. I'm impressed you remember their names.

FayCarew · 06/11/2023 17:17

@Crunchymum , especially given that the ages are listed.

aSofaNearYou · 06/11/2023 17:58

I've never heard of Elky, that one sounds a bit odd to me but the others are lovely.

wited · 06/11/2023 18:03

Elky and Brooks!!!

Brooks just makes me think of Shawshank.

Hobbesmanc · 06/11/2023 18:13

Was the Elkie Brooks connection deliberate? I wouldn't have thought she's well known nowadays. We once lived next door but one to her aunt and uncle.

ErinAoife · 06/11/2023 18:35

Remi is nice but for me it is a boy name. Don't like the others name.

tsmainsqueeze · 06/11/2023 18:36

Awful.

DappledThings · 06/11/2023 18:40

Brooks Joseph (boy) - 10
Don't like surnames as first names so hate this. Joseph is a great name. Would've gone for that

Gracie Jayne (girl) - 8
Why use a nickname? I'd have gone for Grace and called her Gracie sometimes

Atticus James (boy) - 6
OK, bit pretentious

Elky Jade (girl) - 3
Very silly

Remi June (girl) - 6 months
Nice name for a boy. Silly for a girl.

theduchessofspork · 06/11/2023 20:40

I like Atticus a lot

Elky - you didn’t.. did you?!

Robinbuildsbears · 09/11/2023 14:22

LylaLee · 06/11/2023 12:48

Brooks sounds like a butler or a prisoner being called.

At least they all have normal middle names they can use.

I would think the names sound very chavvy. I would think it's a bit shit to have so many kids and wonder how you can afford for them to all have hobbies and sports, and how 5 kids get individual time with their parents.

I think that's a bit harsh, I have four brothers and didn't have any of the problems you're presuming exist in this family. Also opinions were asked about names, not the number of children.

miniaturepixieonacid · 09/11/2023 18:37

This is VERY identifiable and most people don't want opinions on their existing children's names so I question how serious/real you are. However, I like commenting on names and I'm bored so ...

Brooks Joseph (boy) - I like the sound of it. I've never heard it as a name before. It goes well with Joseph. I probably wouldn't choose it as I think people would assume he was called Joseph Brooks and the names had been written the wrong way round.
Gracie Jayne (girl) - I love Grace. Gracie is a sweet nickname but I would have used Grace on the birth certificate. Jane is my middle name and I always wanted a y to be a bit more unusual.
Atticus James (boy) - I love this. I've never met an Atticus in real life but it's great - and a cool literary role model too. Maybe quite American, not sure?
Elky Jade (girl) - I've never heard this. It's sweet. I think I would have spelled it Elkie as it seems less connected to an Elk. I prefer Elfie or Effie and all three are more nicknames than full names to me - for Elizabeth, probably.
Remi June (girl) - I love this. Surprised to read from other people that it's a boy's name. I've known girls with it. I think it's unisex.
