I was just reading the thread about the woman who's sister named her baby the same as her child....

i would be a bit miffed at that but try this one for size..

my MIL called her new dog the same name as my dd which is Hollie and she named her dog Holly!!! WTF? and when she gave my dd her bday card she spelt it the same way as her dogs name!!!!!!!!! me and dp are baffled and quite offended .

LOL this is very funny, it's mean too and I would be offended by it.

Unfitmother · 10/03/2008 17:19

No!!

LilRedWG · 10/03/2008 17:20

Mean old bag! (But I must admit I'm smiling just a little too). MILs are wonderful aren't they!

imaginaryfriend · 10/03/2008 17:22

How awful. But I can't help but snigger at the sheer horror of the creature we call the MIL.

I would have to say something like I'm sure DD will love it when she's older that you called your dog after her, and hops she gets the sarcasm!

ninja · 10/03/2008 17:26

My dd(3 at the time) named her Guineau Pigs after her best friends at Nursery - it was meant as a compliment by her. You would think an adult would have more sense though.

ratbunny · 10/03/2008 17:27

of all the names she could have chosen!
does she see your dd very often? maybe she misses her? (trying to rationalise the madness of the act!)
your next pet should definitely be named after her!

MingMingtheWonderPet · 10/03/2008 17:31

Now that is weird!

What was she thinking?

currantbunmum · 10/03/2008 17:31

I named one of our cats after my Grandad, Norman George. But I would be horrified to have MIL name her dog after DD!

Maybe you could buy a tarantula / toad/ snake and name it after MIL, to ahem, repay the compliment

Broodymumof2 · 10/03/2008 17:36

I must admit when i say it out loud i laugh also but it is such a cheek..it is deff not because she misses my dd as we only live 10 mins away and she never bothers with us! my friend gave me a great idea to get her back though for her birthday i'm going to adopt her a pot bellied pig called felicity from the hillside animal sanctuary and ( her name is felicity also lol). So we will see how that goes down her bday is in april !

And the confusion when they are together...

"Who is taking H out on a walk" - both go madly excited
"Time for H tea" - both go madly excited
"Time for bath H" - both go hysterical

Broodymumof2 · 10/03/2008 18:01

I think if she was the kind of grandmother who doted on the kids it would be different...but she just has no interest in her grandchildren and we stopped visiting her because everytime we went over she would shout at the kids for touching anything esp her patio doors or glass internal doors and my kids would leave in tears with me biting my lip trying not to lamp her....she can barely tell my 2 kids appart and when dp told her off about it she says well they look the same! there is 2yrs between them!

Broodymumof2 · 10/03/2008 18:03

lol yes that is the other thing.. claricebeansmum she is a very loud woman she shouts when she talks and when she shouts at the dog you can see my dd tremble thinking its her she is talking to!

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 10/03/2008 18:04

God, she sounds an absolute charmer - she can't tell the kids apart?

Perhaps next time you could say: "This is the child you named your dog after and this is the other one." Maybe then she'd remember!

eleusis · 10/03/2008 18:10

This is downright odd of your MIL. However, I did laugh very hard when I read the OP thinking it was a joke.

Love the adopt-a-pig idea. I so hope you follow through with it.

chelsygirl · 10/03/2008 18:19

she sounds worth avoiding

controlfreakyagain · 10/03/2008 18:22

toxic mad cow.

itsahardknocklife · 10/03/2008 18:27

God I would be furious and would let her know! Mind you, I did want to name a particularly scruffy old bitch after my stepMIL but DH wouldn't let me!!

dizzydixies · 10/03/2008 18:32

refuse to call it holly - call it polly or millie or molly or something and if she picks up on it just say

'sorry, I didn't think for one second you'd name a dog after your beloved grandaughter?!? '

make sure and teach your Holly to call it by the wrong name too
