I was just reading the thread about the woman who's sister named her baby the same as her child....

i would be a bit miffed at that but try this one for size..

my MIL called her new dog the same name as my dd which is Hollie and she named her dog Holly!!! WTF? and when she gave my dd her bday card she spelt it the same way as her dogs name!!!!!!!!! me and dp are baffled and quite offended .

Not quite in the same league, but when I was a district nurse many years ago I used to visit a family where the son and dog had the same name...

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2008 19:00

idiotic woman! sorry but it is laughable isn't it

MIL field day on MN today

scottishmummy · 10/03/2008 19:01

yes it could almost make me cry laughing

funnyhaha · 10/03/2008 19:25

My grandma (my mothers mother) had a male dog called by my name (to be fair, unisex name when shortened).

it never occurred to me throughout my childhood (I ADORED the dog... & indeed my grandmother) it just seemed like a happy co-incidence) but my mum recently said she named it after I was named - my mother was FURIOUS and never really forgave her ...
The moral is? Your Hollie won't mind

barbarianoftheuniverse · 10/03/2008 19:36

Well, at least she likes the name you chose. My MIL's first words on hearing of dd's arrival and name were 'That name reminds me of the back streets of Belfast'.

Which was quite mild considering her comment on arrival of ds...

BarcodeZebra · 10/03/2008 22:13

She's a bitch. (You choose which one: dog or owner).

Although my sister's kids called their pet rabbit the same name as my brother's still born third son.

We were.....surprised......

Ring RSPCA and insist dog is maltreated and have it rehomed in , er,..the Shetlands. Problem solved! But dont let her read this in case she gets wise and tries to nick the idea and confiscate DD first!

Mad!! But quite funny.

My rellies spell DS name wrongly ...drives me mad but am going to bide my time until I can coach DS at about 4 yrs to tell them off and correct them!!

jamsambam · 10/03/2008 23:00

hahaha..this thread reminds me of the time i was a t a friends house with all the kids playing in and out of the house ( hot summer. her neighbours dog cam running into the garden and she yelled "X get out" at the top of he r face. Before id even realised the connection, my ds2 who was 3 at the time started walking down the street..

they had the same name and he thought he was being told to get out! they changed the dogs name the next day!

jamsambam · 10/03/2008 23:02

god my spelling is awful...

JayneF · 10/03/2008 23:09

Ahh, poor mite!! Did you ever regret the decision to call her Rex?

lou222 · 28/04/2008 22:41

brilliant
glad you went through with it!

itsahardknocklife · 28/04/2008 22:49

I'm glad too! Good for you

2sugarsagain · 29/04/2008 06:42

Broody, I think I can top that!

When our dd1 was born, H wanted to call her Gemma. Nothing wrong with that, you might think, except that our Border Collie was also called Gemma.

I tried to explain the complications that would follow. His response? "Well, the dog's not going to be around forever".

DD1 was almost seven when the dog died.

zebedee1 · 29/04/2008 07:18

My ex-MIL gave her pet pig the same name as me (Katie) oh yes we had a great relationship

NotQuiteCockney · 29/04/2008 08:40

When I was a kid, our dog was called Winnie. After my Nana. My mom really didn't like her mom - Nana wanted one of her grandkids called Winnifred, and I think Mom came under a fair bit of pressure over this, because she produced the last two grandkids.

Rather than calling either of us Winnifred, though, she called the dog that.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/04/2008 08:41

(Nana also wanted her last grandkid, my sister, born on Nana's birthday, like her first grandkid had been. I should have more sympathy for my mom in this situation, shouldn't I ...)
