Baby girl coming next week

Wise mumsnetters, please help.
We are yet to agree on a name for incoming DD and I've lost all hope we ever will!

We tend to like quite 'girly' names but my husband prefers less common ones than I do.

Some of his favourites are: Sophia, Aurelia, Sierra, Aoife, Roisin (he is Irish)

I love: Esme, Gabriella, Mila, Amelie, Eloise, Calista

Any other suggestions?
Or any love for our current faves?

Amelie is a lovely name. I also like Sophia but not a huge fan of its popularity.

Moveoverdarlin · 02/11/2023 23:37

My favourite is Sophia.

(Meant to say - I love all of your and his names so I was suggesting some similar style.)

babynamehelp65 · 02/11/2023 23:50

I love the suggestions coming in, thank you! I'll go through all with DH when he is home from the night shift.

I agree Sophia is a beautiful name, but the popularity puts us off. Same goes for Sienna.

In DS's nursery there is a Sophia and a Sophie and 3 (!) Siennas. It's not even that big a nursery...

Esme would be pronounced 'Ehs-May'.

I love Gabriella

smilesup · 02/11/2023 23:54

I love almost almost all of your names. Aoife doesn't work in my accent as sounds like a lisp and Sienna v popular. But a gorgeous choice you won't go wrong!

Amelie is my favourite by far! I’d be wary of Irish names unless you’re actually living in Ireland - pronunciation and spelling will be an issue anywhere else (coming from someone that’s from N. Ireland!)

I adore Maeve - a nice nod to the Irish side whilst still being mainstream enough that it won’t cause her any bother.

daisydalrymple · 03/11/2023 00:15

Sophia esme would get my vote.
dc3 was going to be Rosie Eleanor if he’d been a girl.

All a similar vibe to your and your DH's names?

Findyourneutralspace · 03/11/2023 03:25

Roisin is my favourite name ever and if I had any recent Irish connection I’d definitely have used it. It’s a lovely name - string, feminine and fairly unusual where I live.

marshmallowfinder · 03/11/2023 03:25

Not Mila. Another 'mealer', 'Mealy', 'meal' sounding word which is so ugly. Similar to milia too, which are those white spots.🤢

My favourites are Gabriella and Aurelia.

What pretty names!! She might just arrive and one name just fits! It took us a week to name our son, had 2 names in mind and ended up using something completely different!

A few other suggestions:
Ophelia
Sapphire
Millicent
Clementine
Maeva

NotFastButFurious · 03/11/2023 10:46

I don't love any of the ones on either of your lists. Sophia and Amelie are ok although I prefer Sophie as it feels less "frilly".
Esme feels very over done at the moment.
I don't like Elouise, it's just got too many vowels for me and in my head (for some inexplicable reason) I hear it in a really broad Scouse accent which makes me cringe!
Calista sounds like something you'd take to cure thrush.
Aoife and Roisin are ok but they're quite Irish and they're not names I can imagine being used on a baby.

Maeve
