Candy?

TTC at the moment with 3rd baby.
Thoughts on Candy, Candida, Clemence or Clementine?
To provide some context and not drip feed:

Candy/Candida- inspired by keyboardist Candida Doyle (of Pulp fame)

Clemence- after a character in a book

Clementine- similar to Clemence and maybe more socially accepted

Thoughts welcome but please explain your reasoning if you dislike the names. Also open to other suggestions!

Ahhh hormones

Toddler101 · 31/10/2023 12:51

Candida - yeast infection. Definitely not a good name for anyone.

The only one I like of your list is Clementine.

peaceinourtime · 31/10/2023 12:54

Candy is nice as a stand alone name.

I agree I don't like Clemmy either. Not sure why but the sound just seems not quite right to me.

It could sound like a South African saying "Clammy"

VeridicalVagabond · 31/10/2023 13:01

Candy is a bit... Uh... Stripper-y? I'm picturing bottle blonde pigtails, itty bitty skirt, big red lollipop. That or a pet.

Clemence goes completely the opposite way and feels quite puritan and dour... Same vein as Prudence, Chastity, Temperance etc.

Clementine is ok, I have two in my family but they will get Clemmie or Clem.

And thankfully it seems you've already seen the light about Candida - although I do work with a Candida and she's lovely, and bless her heart has been bold enough to work in our Gynaecology centre, I still wouldn't pick it as a name!

Marian220 · 31/10/2023 16:22

Do you mean Candia? I knew a girl called Candia at my old school. I thought it was a nice name!

Agree sounds like a porn star

TheBirdintheCave · 31/10/2023 16:26

The only Candy I knew was short for Candelaria.

Favouritefruits · 31/10/2023 16:28

Too fruity and yeasty for my liking but each to their own at a push if go for Clementine

princefamilypaper · 31/10/2023 18:17

I love clementine! Not a fan of candy

littleripper · 31/10/2023 18:19

Candy is a stripper/drag name and EVERYONE is telling you the thrush link, because it is true.

YourWinter · 31/10/2023 18:24

Candida means thrush to most people, and the likelihood of your daughter appreciating a connection to Pulp or any other ‘90s band is minimal.

Candy is a good name for a poodle…

Candice is possibly best.

IsadoraQuagmire · 31/10/2023 18:43

I just think of the George Bernard Shaw play when I hear the name Candida, I think it's lovely. Naturally I know it's another name for thrush, but surely people SAY thrush?
Clemence, Clementine and Clemency are all nice and I'm fond of Candy as I had a favourite teacher with that name.

Goodornot · 31/10/2023 18:44

MoonlightMuse · 30/10/2023 23:06

Candida is yeast that is responsible for infections like thrush and vaginal yeast infections

Yup

Instead of Candy make it Candace

Clemence no one will pronounce properly.

Clementeen or Clementyne? No matter which one you choose someone will always say it wrong.

How about Clemency?

vestedinterests · 31/10/2023 20:36

Can't believe you had Candida on your list lol

theduchessofspork · 31/10/2023 22:17

Candy just sounds dopey. Pulp or not.

Clementine is OK but a bit twee

Cassia (Cassie)

theduchessofspork · 31/10/2023 22:18

Cecilia / Celia / Cecile / Cecily - Cece

Marcipex · 31/10/2023 23:20

Callista is beautiful, what about that?

I know a Cally, short for Caroline, and another Cally whose full name it is.

I know one elderly American named Candy. She is v v petite which I suppose helps carry it off.

Maddy70 · 30/10/2023 23:46

Sorry all are hideous. American names reminding me of thrush
