TTC at the moment with 3rd baby.
Thoughts on Candy, Candida, Clemence or Clementine?
To provide some context and not drip feed:

Candy/Candida- inspired by keyboardist Candida Doyle (of Pulp fame)

Clemence- after a character in a book

Clementine- similar to Clemence and maybe more socially accepted

Thoughts welcome but please explain your reasoning if you dislike the names. Also open to other suggestions!

Candida is yeast that is responsible for infections like thrush and vaginal yeast infections

This was my immediate thought op sorry, please don't call her that, clemence, clementine are really cute though!

eurotravel · 30/10/2023 23:51

I know a Candy. She's gorgeous and very popular, she's really called Candice (Cand-iss). Do not called your child candida fgs

BluebellsareBlue · 30/10/2023 23:53

But isn't that because of the meaning which is simply "white"? It's a saint's name.

It is not something to ignore though!

Notalldogs23 · 31/10/2023 00:09

I'd go for Clara or Cora, if you want a C name, lovely names, suit a child and an adult easy to spell and pronounce.

I really wouldn't go for Clemence if you want it pronounced in the French way, unless you live in France.

sleepismyhobby · 31/10/2023 00:13

My dog growing up was candy

whatausername · 31/10/2023 00:19

Clemence I've always known as a man's name. I think it was a French male name and English has borrowed it. And Clemency is the female version(?). However, I think these days it could easily be used for a girl and not many would bother about it, and almost nobody would pass comment.

This is the problem with people being basically illiterate these days, and choosing names on the basis of liking sounds rather than being invested in the meaning of their own language.

  • Candida - the yeast that causes thrush.
  • Clemence- a quite severe word; it means clemency, to pardon.
  • Clementine - a type of orange.

Fine if you wish to call your daughter any of these but please try to gain some awareness of what the words mean before lumbering your child with it.

CallieQ · 31/10/2023 00:45

Yes, but the reason doesn't matter.

Sorry all are hideous. American names reminding me of thrush

Really? American names?

hoobanoobie · 31/10/2023 00:59

@CallieQ My little pony had it first Grin

Sugarfree23 · 31/10/2023 00:59

Candy Apple, Candy Canes or Candy floss!
Op I wouldn't name a child Candy, makes me think of a sticky mess.

Someone mentioned Alba it's the Gaelic work for Scotland so used for many things political party, BBC stations, various company names.

Sorry op keep trying

hoobanoobie · 31/10/2023 01:03

@CallieQ It's still better than thrush 😂

Orchidgarden · 31/10/2023 01:04

Clementine is lovely, as is Clémence.

MerryChristmasToYou · 31/10/2023 10:47

Candy, Candida, Clemence or Clementine?
None of them.
Candida is quite nice but will make people think of thrush and fungal infection.
Clementine isn't too bad but makes me think of a satsuma
Clemence - might be ok if French

Lucyintheskywithlove · 31/10/2023 11:21

I've always thought that if candida wasn't thrush, it would make a lovely girls name. I loved the name as a teenager before I discovered what it was the medical term for.😯

Ittastesvile · 31/10/2023 12:49

How about Candela? I know a Spanish Candela and really like it.

Carmella?
